To me it looks very similar to the Cucumber Tree officially known as Magnolia Acuminata.
    Magnolia acuminata - Cucumber-tree -- Discover Life
It burns about the same as Poplar.

    Edited to add:
After it's cut to firewood length, try splitting it using a splitting axe or maul, whichever you prefer. If it splits easy, the chances are good it is the Cucumber Tree. If it tends to be a bear to split the rounds using an axe or maul, the chances are good you have Gum.

As for the leaves, Tupelo (gum) leaves are generally 3 to 6 inches in length. The Cucumber Tree can have leaves close to 10 inches in length.

I still say it's the Cucumber Tree.

The "splitting" test will quickly tell you if it's Tupelo.....that stuff is a sun-gun to split, even with hydraulics.....

I'm kinda leaning towards tupelo myself......

Everybody poops, it's natural. If you don't poop, there's going to be a problem.

And if you cut that poplar, it smells like somebody has peed.

Thats funny! Now I have to tell a story. Once at work I was sitting at my desk and got to feeling so bad I called the secretary and told her to just stay with me for a minute. She freaked and called an ambulance. At the hospital they couldn't find anything wrong with me. I was hooked to IVs and monitors and told them I had to go. They wanted me to use a bed pan. I told them to pull all that crap off of me because I was going to the bathroom. After that they released me, with no explanation of what was wrong except the nurse telling me that"remember, it's important to poop". No chit:faint::rofl: :hair::thumbs:
