I found this at the city landscape facility. It was easy pickings but despite the fact that I was a Biology teacher at one time, I am just not sure what it is. I think some kind of Magnolia

I'd say that might be a pretty good guess Chief. Leaves look right.

On second thought I don't know for sure. I have 2 different types of magnolias and just went and looked at both, bark isn't right. Bark on both of mine looks like soft maple bark, somewhat smooth gray.

Yeah, bark is what's got me spooked. When I first saw it I thought it was hedge. I have not seen this species of Magnolia around here if that is what it is. It was a huge tree. Much bigger than the usual Magnolia. I cut a little because it was just too easy. So in 3 years I will find out if it is any good. And then wish I had cut more. :hair::axe:

Did the wood have any kind of smell to it when re-cut?

Hey Eric, they laugh at most things I do involving my wood stacks, but they sure do like it when it's in the stove in the winter.:smoke:

No, not Polar. And it really didn't have much smell Eric. Not like I expected.

Most magnolias here have a darker green, waxy, stiff look to their leaves.....I'm stumped on what species it is.

    tfdchief, just a question here....

Did you snap them leaves off one of the limb/log sections?

Not doubting anything, but I see a bunch of detritus, just want to make sure is all....

I doubt it is, but my total guess was dogwood. That orange color is throwing me way off.

    What about persimmon
