This question is actually a little bit of a thread hijack, :Yar:, so my apologies, but I am going to be in the market for a lawn/garden tractor soon. I see a lot of JDs on here, but does anyone have any experience/opinion of Cub Cadets? I am getting mixed reviews through my online searching, but I take all of those with a grain of salt, anyways. I would much prefer to hear from this group, as I hold all of your opinions in much higher regard than others. I will have about an acre of actual grass to mow, flat with minimal obstacles. I am looking hard at the XT2 Enduro LX50.

    CubCadet - XT2 LX50"

    Thoughts?

I worked at a customers house that had a deere and a cub cadet in the garage. The cub was a new on (1-2 years old) but they preferred the deere all day long and even sounded a bit regretful about buying the cub. They mentioned that there is a safety built into the mower that it keeps cutting out for some reason or another.....
I own neither brand, so it's unbiased.

I'd be more concerned about the transmission choice, the cubs use the popular but weak k46 trans.(so does bottom feeder or entry level John d).
Even a flat small yard transmission failures occur with them.
K70 and up are in my experience unbreakable.

The trans price itself is a big part of what separates garden tractor values.

That thing mowed acres and acres, it mowed 10 acres of lawn then 3 miles or so of woods trails(for over a decade), I used it to pull logs from the woods before my quad as well.
That was my parents old machine(I repowered it last fall), it earned my respect so much I hunted down a low hour 245 for our place.

That's funny, my dad bought a 225 back in 2000 for his place. He uses it to plow snow and mow. When I bought my place in 2007 I hunted down my 225. Mine has plowed snow every year, push gravel as needed, mowed the lawn and hauled wood. It's been great but loves to eat batteries every other season it seems.

They are incredible machines I dont plow but I use a crappy single stage snow blower.
It's funny you mention batteries, the original jd battery was the longest lasting battery(original jd brand) on that mower I've ever seen. I replaced it last year I think.

My old man is still on his original JD battery from 2000! :bug:I've replaced the aftermarket one on mine 3 or 4 times since 2007. Maybe I need to pony up the fund for a JD one next time. :)

Depends on what level of product you are comparing. On the bottom end, pick whichever color suits your decor. Mid range and up Deere offers so much more than Cub/MTD.

I think the real competition is Deere vs. Husqvarna as those orange and gray tractors keep getting better components and more features.
