Yes, it is a spider, but what kind? Seems friendly as we see it almost every time we go into the raspberries.
That thing may seem friendly, but they scare the crap outta me. Thats a big one, must move on to another thread for now..........
That is an orb weaver. I believe the zig zag in the web helps birds avoid flying into it. My neighbor had one in his tomato plants a few years back
Yup, orb Weaver! Excellent spider to have in the garden. My daughter found a spider ball of baby orb Weaver's earlier this year. We guarded them until they got big enough to go their separate ways. Now they are everywhere!
Not liking to get near spiders. Every time one gets on me, I get a rash, then open areas that are slow to heal. They have their place, just not on me!
My grandma called them corn spiders. All I know is I hated them! I used to pump up my Crossman, but wouldn't load a pellet and I'd blow em to pieces with the air blast. Then I'd stand back until the goose bumps went away!
I have a distaste for them, growing up their webs were face level, playing in fields of golden rod they would end up all over me, and they aren't small spiders either. Every summer gobs of them. Yuck
