Some really nice sized cherry Zap - I know what you mean with the pith rotting out dang carpenter ants build a highway up the middle of them.
Very seldom do I see any over 12-14DBH down here and they are always crooked with insect burls

That's the nice thing about splitting ant damaged cherry in the woods, you leave the ants there instead of bringing them home.

So many bigger cherry down from the wind storms, we also have so many trees that lost there tops from the ice storm, I'll grab what's down first.

Zap that's a nice cherry. Had a guy approach me while I was cutting the trees on the scout "charity" job back in October, he lived on the property neighboring the property we cut those 8 large trees on. He watched me climb and piece all of those trees down, after we were done he came out and asked me if I "wanted" the two HUGE cherry trees in his backyard. They were around 30" DBH, and 70' tall, on a steep embankment hanging out over power lines.......he wanted the job done for free....

I said "thanks, but NO THANKS........". I did, however, clean up one huge trunk that had came down during Sandy that was laying across his back yard, ended up with a heaping truckload of cherry rounds from that (I had pics of them split a while back), saved all the scraps for smoker wood too. Cherry smells fabulous when burning!

Good call on not taking the Cherry.

We burn so much Cherry I can't smell the difference anymore, but when I'm splitting it I can.
