1st load down, 2 more loads to go (hopefully). I got a phone call from my wood guy today. He saids Locust. He thinks Black, but not for sure. So I didn't blink a eye about it. It turns out to be Thorny Honey Locust... Now I have work to do....
I've been burning honey locust almost 24/7 for the past month and a half, it's definitely right up there on the top of the charts IMO. Black locust is a little better, but not by much. both leave a fantastic bed of coals and deliver long burns. I like to throw a split of oak or ash in with the locust to "get the engine started". It's a little slow out of the gate but puts out some amazing, long lasting heat. Good score, Chevyman!
Thats a whole lotta of locust you've got there...I knew you said you liked locust and all. I got into some this year and absolutely love it. I'd put it as my #2 wood, right under Hedge. I dont know if you remember my story last year of when I pulled the arborist wife's minivan out of the snow while out cleaning drive ways. But this was him. Aint nuttin' like Honey Locust in your stash.
Thanks...I love Locust too, the only down part is this load does have the thorns. But its the price to pay for premium wood.
Yes, it was delivered. But since he's got a dump bed it makes it easy on him too, plus I'm only like a couple of blocks down the road from his wood yard. So that helps too.
Love the Locust. Honey smells so good too. I have enough Black, and Honey for the next 2 Winters in my stacks
Got some mixed in the stack this year, didnt know what it was when I cut it-- was just learning to identify species then. I tell you, even without a full year to dry it has been some of my best stuff. Burns a lot better than the elm that has had a full year to season. Looking forward to burning more of it two years from meow when that stack is properly seasoned.
