With my first generation sequoia power is a problem. It's rated at like 8600. But having around 5000 pound load behind it I can't imagine pulling an 8000 pound camper. You would run out of power on any incline and be getting like 8 mpg.

    That's because it's a Toyota! J/k
Its twin cam needs to rev. Even diesels towing upwards of 8k get 10mpg

It has more power than its predecessors and full size truck predecessors, I grew up with a 1977-76?suburban 175 hp 275 tq . Pulled horse trailers and old wooden boats through the Adirondacks before I was a twinkle.

Tow ratings and tow standards have come a long way.
There are sae guidelines for tow ratings now, just like when manufacturers agreed to hp sae guidelines.

Yep the sequoia I'd actually the wife's but when we all go to the farm it's what's used. My old tow vehicle and wood getter is a 1980 chevy k10. 5.7L 350ci 175hp motor just like you talk about. It also gets 8mpg towing the same equiptment trailer the toyota gets 10.5 mpg towing. But the toyota does it faster, safer, and with more comfort as we're in AC and my little boy is in the back watching his movies on the DVD player.
