ALL, If you receive a text from the above number, "DO NOT OPEN IT"! "DELETE INSTANTLY"

It is a New Jersey area code but their scamming on craigslist. I have my boat for sale on there and you get a text saying; Interested can you gmail me more info! It said to send a text to a Gmail account, which I didn't but heres the kicker, When I tried to delete it after opening it, It LOCKED ay incoming texts and voice messages. Only my phone worked. I spent two hours at the sprint store and "none" of the folks there could erase the message.
My phone was wiped clean!!! After having to completely wipe/scrub my server, then my phone was put back into service. Again, the number is (609) 300-2629 I'm by far a phone techie but this really jacked my phone.

Actually no, not in the message area. There is a drop down box is where your number goes. But any one can cut and paste or write it down. Yes, my number was up there for people to call.

Typically if you click the contact area you can see the phone number. Thats something I check to make sure I'm not contacting a scammer.

On the craigslist add, I mean. If you put your number on the add then it is visible.

Let me be clear. I didn't put it in the ad "body"! There is a place for your phone number and it is not shown until you go to the reply button. That's where my number was, where Craigslist said to put it! So I did.
Now, it is only visible "IF" you go to the reply tab at the top of the ad. then your number will be shown. Yes, it was in the reply box, "not in the ad itself"! I did that so people could call me, not F#K with me.

But the people who scam or are milicious know where to look for a phone number, this is what they do. Its better to not put your number up where anyone can see it. For instance, I now know your phone number and so could everyone on this forum if they click through...

And in reality, anyone could find my phone number! It's on 10,000 business cards I've given out in the last 5 years. That's nothing new. What I was getting at was how some people can be A$$#O!!s and screw with you! I can't live my life in fear or always worried about crap like that. Not to worry, when I retire my number will change and only a "SELECT" few will have the number. ;)

Nice sailboat. Too bad you have to part with it. It was hard to sell our Ranger 29 when we had to.

Same problem here WeldrDave ! I received two texts today from different numbers (609 area code). Both were asking for more information on an appliance I had for sale. Funny thing is, i don't have an appliance for sale.

    They were both deleted quickly.

I'm an iphone user, but a quick search suggests that Android phones are more vulnerable to viruses delivered via text message. You can probably reduce your risk of this sort of thing by keeping your operating system updated.
