If I had a dog I would have a fountain for them too, running filtered water doesn't get stagnant in 2 or 3 hours

My dogs hate city water, with that said nasty puddle or swamp water always seems to taste the best.

I tried to channel my best DaveGunter and had a tennis ball in my hand. Badger loves tennis balls.

But any of my previous dogs would be bouncing around in excitement if I had a tennis ball - not posing nicely for a picture . Well, there were two dogs that didn't do toys, so they wouldn't have paid attention at all.

Apparently you do better at training your dogs than I ever did

I was greeted by my "puppy" Flicka in dire need of my attention after a couple days away from home.

Scuzz (former neighbor cat I adopted in Nov. 2014 when they separated & moved away in Jan 2015) had been lonely since his little old buddy Fuzzball died April 2016 aged 20 yrs 5 months. Have been thinking about getting a roommate for him for past month or so.

Been watching the main local shelter here both online every few days & once a week they also showcase a few cats/dogs available on a local noon TV news broadcast.

Decided on Pablo - went over there & met him Wed. 7/20,brought him home Sunday morning 7/24.Friendly little guy,he's about average size, will fill out more in a year or so.About half the weight of big mellow Scuzz :D 4 year old domestic shorthair,neutered/front declawed.Normally I wouldn't want a declawed cat,but since Scuzz was already neutered/front declawed by a previous owner I wanted them to be equal if there was any ''disagreements'' ;)

Was advised to keep them somewhat apart & introduce them gradually after a week or so.Even with a big house/main floor/finished basement I thought that would be difficult & not fair to them. So a couple hours after bringing them home I opened basement door & let the new guy come up.At first he ''tried'' to be an alpha male, hissed at Scuzz a couple times but Scuzz just ignored him   End of first day there was no problem other than the expected hissing or occasional swatting by the new guy.

Fast forward 2-3 days & they're getting along fine, sometimes too good, they bonded pretty quickly.:yes:Pablo really likes his new permanent home & roommate,no anxiety about being around the hundreds of other cats/dogs at the shelter plus having to be moved back/forth when he was ''on loan'' & sent out on a shelter getaway/temp foster home for a few days....

At least once a day for 10 minutes they go nuts, chasing each other around the main floor,up & across the furniture back & forth, occasionally getting a bit rough, but they never get too aggressive. ;)Take turns sleeping in different windows/chairs/sofas. If Scuzz leaves the main floor for a few minutes,Pablo goes looking for him.

I love black cats - have had 5 that I remember off the bat. Glad those two are getting along and bonding so quickly. It is tough to tell if you have picked a good match for your existing buddy until you get them home and let the tensions settle. Sounds like you did a terrific job!

It is funny to watch a cat who is trying to be bossy and the other cat just studiously ignores them as if the other one is beneath their notice. I've had two like that - Shadow (a black feline, passed at age 15 summer of 2013) and my current Fuzzy (who was a feral Tom for at least 5 years). Fuzzy will only react if cornered and attacked (then he's all business and ends things right quick); Shadow never had to show his superiority - apparently all dogs and cats could just tell and treated him respectfully. He was also the peacekeeper - stepping between spats before they got out of hand.
