Been running Libre Office on my Macs for 4-5 years. Works great, seems to be able to import most any file type. Gets a big  from me.

Yeah, that would probably drive me Bat Chit crazy - e.g.: viewing IT equipment on a slant here. :picard:
My alcohol consumption would greatly improve, though. :drunk:

    Generator Maintenance Question:

    (Craftsman 5,600w / 8,600w surge, 10hp Briggs OHV model)

So I fired up the generator this week, started right up on 1st pull, super happy about that.

I plugged in the Cyberpower 1000PFCLCD UPS I picked up on Amazon's Prime Day the other week into a 120v port w/o any load, and it showed:

    Volts: 124
    Hz: 61.8

Which the UPS happily accepted -> and output correctly  but without knowing the (original) output values from the Generator before I refurb'ed the motor (Carb rebuild, new Magneto) ..

Would you try to 'tweak' the Hz down closer to 60 Hz by adjusting engine RPM,
Or just call it "good" & leave it as-is ?

    * I'm on-the-fence on this, any experience & opinions would be valued & appreciated.

( The Cyberpower UPS will replace the APC 1500 unit we were using for the Francesca Stove, for the 16'-17' winter season. )

    Thanks,
    Rob

Would not hurt to tweak the carb a tad and get the hertz spot on.

Do you run your Gen set on alcohol free premium fuel ??

The carbs and plastic parts really love getting away from the alcohol.

I'm getting used to it hanging there, but will probably build a pair of new brackets when I take it down off the rack.

    Slanted stuff seems goofy.

Took a long time to get used to the cathedral ceilings in this house. :picard:

Have you tried talking to Cortana yet? Ask for a tel. number of an establishment. Ask the weather, the news, conversion tables etc. Ask it to open a file. on and on. just ask Cortana and it opens up. So easy. I just converted my two other tables that I seldom use. Did it before I was going to end up paying for it. The most concerning thing I have about windows is it is the the operating system of choice for hacking into. I do most all my finances on the internet so I am very careful about downloads, firewall security etc.

<yawn> Us Mac people don't sweat that stuff too much. I do have a system installed to detect & clean if anything shows up, but in the 2 years I've had it, not a single hit (yet).

No, unfortunately not Snowy - choices for non-Ethanol Fuel are very limited in our area. :( As far as I know, even the local Marina here is ethanol fuel. Blah.

I need to make some calls to some local Marinas & ATV - Motorsports dealers in the area next week, they would know if any is available locally.

I've been pretty good about end-of-season maintenance (shutting off fuel and/or draining fuel tank -> running Carbs dry), but I must have missed running the Generator dry last season, it's entirely my bad. :headbang:

The biggest pain w/ the Carb was 1) purchasing an E-Torx set (E5) to remove the carb from the motor ( Thanks EPA for discouraging end-user small engine repair.. NOT. :p ), and hack-sawing off the screw heads holding on the carb bowl to pop it off / remove it. Those were (5mm x 15mm course thread), 'cause I know everyone that's reading really, really wanted to know that info.

The Magneto/Armature replacement I wasn't surprised about, apparently on the 1st generation of the Briggs & Stratton OHV motors the magneto they used was a common failure item - several connection points on the metal were exposed to air, all were all oxidized on the assembly here after 9 years.. The updated replacement part has everything encased in plastic, the new magneto looks much more durable.

With the Boss's (Mrs.) blessing, I plan to hookup the GenSet to the house next week & run a 50% load test on Gen power to see what Voltage / Hz numbers come up, and tweak accordingly as needed.

It will have to be engine RPM adjustment: I didn't see any other user adjustment when I had the front cover off the Generator (Alternator), but admittedly I only removed the dust cover to inspect & vacuum ... Aside from some cobwebs and dust, everything looked really good - all the windings / copper was bright, no apparent oxidation on any circuits, terminals, etc. inside the alternator ..

We had a pretty bad lightning storm roll through last weekend while I was working - bad enough she ended up shutting the house off @ the Main Breaker. She don't do that, ever - so it must have been pretty serious.

I'm looking forward to getting the GenSet good-to-go & (hopefully) storing it away for the season.

I have not. To stubborn to ask for help and muck around till I find what I want. I don't use GPS's either unless its to find a stored fishin spot. I'm still stuck on maps.

I get with the tech someday. Maybe??

Rob...as you put load on that, that frequency will drop down. The small portable genny's are typical with that.

Non-ethanol gas is very expensive and usually only found by the can around our area. There is a website that shows where it is available, but I'm too lazy to look it up and give you the URL . . .

That storm was quite nasty - I only had power flickers but there were a whole lot of people in our general area that lost power for a day or two; lots of trees knowcked down and such. I didn't get much lightning, but heard other areas got plenty so your bride was probably wise in shutting it down.

Same here. State/gov says we need it in our road cars. But its not required in off road or other uses. Yet not one station offers an alternative that is ethanol free. I'd run it in my boat(2 stroke direct injected) if I could find it. Only use one tank the whole season. For now I load the crap out of the gas with stabilizers to help avoid the ethanol blues............

I'd pay $4 plus if I could find ethanol free with an octane of around 90 or so. Save me a crap load of worries I'm gonna get ethanol issues with my fuel.

Tips I got from the dealer was avoid slow stations where fuel sits and can collect water. Go to the busiest station. Use a stabilizer(of coarse it has to be approved by the manufacturer-In this case Evirude). Only put in what you might need and don't allow to sit in the tank. That is where I have a problem I usually get $20 bucks worth and it lasts me 1/2 the season. So I still worry. But I have not had an issue(knock on wood) so far. But hope not as each injector is Big $$($600 or more) and I have 6 of them. Only other option is to send out the injectors for cleaning. But I have not researched it and I'd be leary to get the exact ones back. Each injector is calibrated for each cylinder and should go back in the proper cylinder to avoid tuning issues...................

Would be SO nice to get non ethanol.................

Dang....sounding more and more like I should start experimenting.

I didnt upgrade to 10 and still running 7. After seeing J's post last night I didnt even bother downloading.

Can I create a 2nd partition and experiment on the same HD as a win 7 install or should I dedicate a HD for it?
My laptop has 2 hard drives so I guess I can experiment there if that is a better option. Right now the 2nd hd is only for backups.

Then comes that pesky little issue called "time" to play. This may be a winter project :)
