Got this from a BIL

and got it running today. Hasn't been run for a while, and it sputtered a bit, but after a few minutes, it seems to run great.
I checked the oil first, then added fresh fuel. 5 gallon tank, but I didn't fill it.

 

Forgot to mention.....he wouldn't take anything for it. Just wanted it gone.
His loss, my gain.
Wife and I have been talking about getting one of these for a while.
Anybody know if it could handle a 1/2 HP well pump? That's our biggest problem when the power's out for any length of time.

 

I've got a 5500 watt genny thats about 20 years old. I have a 3/4 HP pump at home and the generator will run it, but it dogs down a bit on startup. Knock on wood, I haven't needed to use the generator for the pump since I replaced my pressure tank with an 80 gallon one several years back. Consumers Energy did a lot of trimming here a couple years ago, and we haven't lost power nearly as much as we used to.

PIEG, thats a different story. We get sporadic outages on sunny days up there, but they don't last long. I blame those on suicidal squirrels.

 

If it's pumpin' 220 volts and is at least a 4000 watt unit... it should run your pump OK, though it'll lug down perty gooder. Might want to check it's voltage output under load.

Nice score, glad you got her running. Might want to consider non ethanol fuel if it's gonna sit

 

I'll use Stabil in the fuel and won't put much in unless needed or when I run it occasionally.

 

Tag says 4000 watts. 33.3 amps @ 120 volts and 16.6 amps @ 240.
The pump motor is a 1/2 HP.
I'm still trying to find a manual for it. Didn't think to ask BIL about that.

 

We sometimes get a little blink of an eye outage for no apparent reason. Most times, it's only out a couple hours, but we've had a couple that lasted days. Always seems to be the same transformer.

 

Our pump is on a 15 amp 220 breaker. If your's is too, that gen might just be able to run it. It'll be working hard while doing it probably. Obviously, you'd have to shut anything else off while running the pump. Single biggest thing to keep in mind... always give that genny 3x as much cooling air as you think it needs. The gen part of the rig can't handle high heat. Perty gooder deal ya got there bro...

Pretty sure ours is also on a 15 amp breaker, but it's 120. Might be on a 20.
I'd only run the well pump when we need water for flushing or if I need coffee. Especially coffee.
Probably run it for the fridge too, between pots of coffee.

 

Excellent. Wished we had one a few times. Out for days. Have one now, but have yet to need it! And that is just they way I hope it stays.

 

Longest outage was almost 4 days in the dead of winter back in '12-'13.
Glad we at least had the woodstove.

 

When we lived in Massena we had a 4500 watt generator so when we moved up here we had the well pump, blower to the propane fireplace, radar oven , fridge,freezer and some lights on it, we only ran everything at once a few times but we had enough juice.

 

I bought one of those new back in the '90's. Still have it in my shed back in VA.

 

And chili, and eggs..........
Hard to get enough water from snow to make coffee though. Bottled water came to the rescue.

I pulled the plug, and it looked like it had barely been run. Very few deposits.
I did that after I got the horse home.

 

Monin Mistah... if your pump is a 120 volt unit, you should be able to run other things too on the other 16 amp leg at the same time as running the pump.

I bought a 4000 Watt generator, didn't need it for 15 years then someone stole it
