Didnt get booted, but found this place from the get go and never looked back. Little birdie told me something was a brewin here.
I stumbled upon FHC one day and knew right away that I wanted to join. I remember being surprised that there were others out there that enjoy all of the tasks associated with firewood. Up until that day, I had never heard of anyone else enjoying it. Whenever I would mention anything about it at work, people would just think I am crazy. "You actually enjoy swinging an axe and running chainsaws?" You bet I do. And now I don't feel like such a freak because of it. And I have met some very good people who I am glad to call my friends--even if we don't actually get together very often.
Right after Scotty got this site up and running, Jay Takeman PM'd me asking for my e-mail address. By e-mail he invited me to this site. I had noticed that he, Smokey the Bear and other's were missing so I readily joined this site.
If the question was actually why I hoard firewood instead of why Im here it's for a several main reasons. 1) A sense of independence...of providing for my family in a basic way 2) Joy of working outside running the saw, axe and maultimately and the exercise of get from it 3) Talking to new found friends about the stuff we have in common
I got a tip from a birdie as well. If ya wanna know who it'l take lots of beer for I spill da beans............ Me thinks sub already had lots!!
I noticed the regular folk weren't around on the other joint, and Googled my way here. Loving this place. It made me attend my first gtg. BTW, wasn't there a way to see member numbers? Maybe it's Cuz I'm on a phone?
When you hit "reply" to a post the member number appears in the code for the reply in the first line or two. You're number 203...I replied to my own post temporarily and I saw I'm number 156. BTW I'm on a phone too.
I found FHC by accident was looking up saw info. Just watched how things were from visitor status for a bit before joining. I have not looked for another site this one is perfect
Wife was encouraging me to put in a wood burning stove and I was starting to hoard firewood. Google took me right here but more importantly, the people on this site have kept me here. No B.S.'ing, just good folks. Scotty Overkill I totally agree that I fall back on this site for moral support to help me persevere when the going gets tough. It really helps.
That must not be a literal member number...as in order of when you joined...it shows that I'm 2607, but I was here waaaaay before that...heck, I think I was under 1000
Hmmm, odd. Maybe I'm not doing it right? I know I was pretty early here. Grizzly Adam, am I doing it wrong?
Back in Sept. - Dec. '14, I was a lurker over at the 'other' site, a complete Newb to pellet stoves, and had the opportunity to purchase a pellet stove that needed some minor electronics repair to get operational again.. Having burned wood previously, I had a good basic understanding on venting requirements, but previous posts & sage advice by many members who are currently active here gave me the knowledge and confidence to do a proper home installation that was safe & met code. (Always very grateful for that David ( STB ) and Pete ( imacman) . ) When I was researching pellet brands to try, JT's extensive testing and experience was -huge- in us being able to find quality pellets locally, at a time where most other choices would not work well w/ the stove here, or were simply unavailable due to supply shortage - I will always be grateful for you freely sharing your knowledge and expertise JT ! I suspect like many here, the changes in attitude and atmosphere on 'other venues' is prompted me to search where so many knowledgeable folks had moved on to .. I'm so glad I found you all here, roasting wood products and drinking beer. It's always a pleasure to visit this site! It feels like home. Thank You! Rob
