I was able to split many of the pieces without limbs with a single strike of the x27 since they were already in halves. The pieces with all the branching will require noodling.

Very heavy. I may need to hand split a few of them in half before splitting with my SS. A vertical hydraulic splitter would be nice for these big trunk pieces.

Update: today I lost the race with the road commission :(. Had made great progress and was sure I could finish the job, but I waited too long for the weather to cool down before getting the last of the big tree trunk. Was able to get 2.5 of the 4 main trunk pieces; what was left was the partially rotten first piece and the extremely knotty 4th piece. It has been so hot and humid here lately, I'm a bit relieved it is gone and I can focus on the splitting and stacking once it cools down a bit.

Here is the last of what I hauled up to the stacks. And the final pile to be split from the tree. Will post the total cords once split and stacked.

Here are a couple pictures of the wood that got away.

I agree! Although there are some btus there, it would have been mostly uglies and hard to harvest too. You did a great job snagging what you did.
