Any coastal towns that you would recommend visiting on the Atlantic? Looking for beaches and towns north of the South Carolina border that aren't overly developed.
Its 10 miles off the coast but I would say Block Island, RI is certainly a place that is not overly developed. Lot of beaches and a much slower pace than the mainland. A significant amount of the island has been preserved as open space. No such thing as a boardwalk. We have rented houses there on and off for many years. Definitely worth your visit or an extended stay.
I like the beaches of NC pretty laid back won't get arrested for having adult beverages, very clean everyone picks up after themselves pics are from North Topsail Beach . Taken in December
Corolla North Carolina for beach driving but anywhere in the outer banks of NC are beautiful and not overly populated only problem is people have discovered the area and during peak season it can get pretty rough moving around down there. I would recommend going in the off season.
It is surprising the number of family and friends who are suggesting I move to the Outer Banks. (So they have a place to stay for free. Lol.)
I like the Eastern shore of Virginia...Cape Charles, Chincoteague Island, Kiptopeke...Cherrystone Campground!!
Check out where I'm from, "The oldest seashore resort in America" Cape May, NJ. Very old Victorian era, Big commerical fishing town, shopping, etc…
Charleston is nice, old south historic. Myrtle Beach if your into spring break type stuff. Avoid Jacksonville, NC unless you want to be surrounded by 10 ft tall and bullet proof Jarheads. I was stationed there from '94-'97. Those where my good old days.
SC has a beautiful coast and I will throw out a mention of the stretch between Charleston and Savannah. My visits will include the "do I want to eventually move here?" thing. I didn't mention SC earlier because of the heat. I have lived in NC and SC before so I know what the summers are like.
The Eastern Shore is a very nice place to visit its pretty secluded lots of farmland and nice old small towns. I have been up there a couple times in the summer the bugs were terrible and if you go around the pony swim time its a madhouse the only beach we could get to was the nudist beach and that wasnt happening since we were kids. Ive been wanting to plan a trip up there again to check the place out but Ill be avoiding it during the pony swim Im not into crowds.
My 2 daughters live in Jacksonville NC one is a school teacher the other is finishing up nursing school and you are correct a whole lot of Jar heads there.
