I thought about that too, but I think a daily complete water change with a simple wipe of the bowl is a good idea.

Never know what one thing will impact another. I hung up a bug zapper. I know it usually just kills month, but I like seeing the birds feed on the months in the morning. What I didn't anticipate was my female lab becoming afraid of the zapper. Afraid so much that I had to pull her out of the house so she could go do her business. Both at night and in the morning. She currently does not have her pet safe collar on, but she knows what an electric buzz is. I've taken the zapper down. She has explored the area and knows it is gone. But she remains apprehensive.
Another issue, my son shoots the red squirrels and the chippies with an air gun. I don't own a gun. When Molly sees him with the gun she runs to get into the house. My son is always kind and gentle with Molly. Hard to figure her out sometimes.

I had a dog that I was trying to clicker train - she was afraid of the clicker noise. I finally just quit trying and couldn't even use it with our other dogs when she was around (she was a good dog, eager to please, otherwise). Funny thing is she was a rock during thunderstorms. When the other two dogs were freaking out she would look at them like, "what is your problem? Let's play!"

Cricket nearly has a heart attack and anxiety attack when Campinspecter vacuums. In the bad weather months, we have to shut her into a bedroom or she disappears outside and hides. For a dog with hardly any hair, that could be bad. Diesel trucks brings on an anxiety attack for her. And yet when a 400 lb bear crosses her path, she is going to take it down. All three turn into pit bull mastiffs and think they are invincible. go figure.

Picked up the latest addition to the family last Saturday from the local Animal Rescue League. I actually met her and started adoption process on the previous Sunday - but she still needed dental work and Felv/FIV test done, so had to wait before bringing her home. This 4 year old female is a love; talkative, cuddly, and fairly calm. The first picture is at the ARL, the second as she was lounging in "her" room a couple of days after coming home. She is all white except a black spot on her nose with the blood running thru her ears making them appear red. Her eyes are a light blue (how apropos - a red, white and blue cat adopted on 4th of July weekend ). Her name was Spirit (maybe Spirit of America?), but that doesn't roll off the tongue and didn't seem right to me, and I have decided to change it to Rita (SpiRIT of America). (as an aside, I had adopted the late Tory, and his late sister Indy -Independence - on July 3, 2000 - so the naming theme continues)

Fuzzy (see thumbnail of his pic) wasn't enamored of her to begin with, but I let them have several days apart, but able to see and smell each other, and then Tuesday she started coming out into the main part of the house. After a week, Fuzzy is pretty good with it - although not yet fast friends, I have seen them touching noses without any fan fare, and they seem to agree that they can make this expanded family work. She hasn't even looked cross-eyed at Birdie, which has been my general experience with cats regarding inside birds.

    Welcome home Rita!

She is beautiful. Are your cats strictly indoor cats?

So far she seems to be indoor only as was Troy, but she has the option to go outside.

Fuzzy loves being outside so he can catch a breeze during the hot weather. I have a 6' chain link fence that goes along the back of the house so there is a 20' x 40' fenced in area that was originally used for my dog. It keeps Fuzzy safe from anything larger than squirrels and the occasional skunk (they are really skinny thru all that fur and actually enter the pen thru the links). Also keeps him away from traffic - If I didn't have the fence I wouldn't let them out as I'm on a fairly busy road and just two lots from another busy road (busy by small town standards).

I would love to have a contained area to let the cat out for some fresh air. However, I have found they do just fine without it and I don't have to worry about them being eaten. They do love the sun porch. It is glassed in and I let them out there with their cat trees there so they can watch the birds. My cats have short legs and can't jump very high, but they can climb. They are very docile. Don't bite or scratch.
That white cat is a real beauty. Good luck with her!

The dog for this week has been a real easy 8 yr old black lab. He sticks with you, comes when called and has almost no interest in other people. About as low maintenance as they get.

    image.jpeg

We took him for a bit of swimming and stick retrieval yesterday evening in the Hudson River by the Tappan Zee. The wind was coming upstream and the 1-2 foot waves got to him real quick.

She loves to lay on fresh dirt. She won't move even as I spread or rake it around her. :)

Cold fresh dirt. What's not to like about it if you are a dog. I went through it last weekend with the lab we had. Except he would drop his stick where I was digging and then lie down where I was piling and bark at me.
