Our last year we had a huge problem was 2006, I'm thinking next year might be another bad year. Will this hot summer make next spring a bad year for tent caterpillars? Wow. That's a bunch of dollars for spraying. Unless this is all public land, I'd think it would be up to the land owners to take care of the problem. A simple torch can work wonders and they'll be gone for many, many years then and no spraying that way. Sorry, but I've never been a fan of spraying. Yes, I've done some and will do more but very little for sure.
A simple torch wasn't going to solve the problem here. It's all woods here Sav, it affected everyone but yes some have more land. We have a bunch of land that is owned by the state but I doubt they paid anything, we do pay taxes unlike the State.
I recall a crazy breakout of tent caterpillars in my youth -mid-late 80's possibly early 90's up in Maine. Down here I see an occasional web/nest in mostly Sourwood trees never an explosive population
