We are nearly 5" below on rain, and in just about a severe drought. We will get storms from NY and PA, and see them dissappear on radar as they approach the coast. Humid as an armpit though.

Our raspberries were small, so I let the birds have them. The grape crop looks amazing. No bunch rot, and lots of clusters.

So far any of the storms that rolled through stayed south and east of us. We'll see what happens tonight when the cold front comes through.

This year the river in our small town is down 10-24 percent compared to normal according to the USGS.

A percentile is a value on a scale of one hundred that indicates the percent of a distribution that is equal to or below it. For example, on the map of daily streamflow conditions a river discharge at the 90th percentile is equal to or greater than 90 percent of the discharge values recorded on this day of the year during all years that measurements have been made. In general,

    • A streamflow which is greater than the 75th percentile is consideredabove normal
    • A streamflow which is between 25th and 75th percentiles is considered normal
    • A streamflow which is less than the 25 percentile is consideredbelow normal
In some hydrological studies, particularly those related to floods, a variation of the percentile known as the "percent exceedance" is used. It is simply obtained by subtracting the percentile scale value from 100 percent. For example, a discharge at the 75th percentile is the same as a discharge at the 25th percent exceedance (100-75=25).
The flow category Low indicates that the estimated streamflow is the lowest value ever measured for the day of the year. Similarly, the flow category High indicates that the estimated streamflow is the highest value ever measured for the day of the year.

"Not ranked" indicates that a flow category has not been computed. Common reasons for a "Not ranked" category are insufficient historical data or no current streamflow estimates.

We've had a bumper year for berries. I probably picked 5 gallons of raspberries...came home to find a gallon of blackberries sitting on the counter that my wife picked today.

Storms rolled through earlier this morning, a quick 1/2-3/4 of an inch of rain. Working on my garage this afternoon, took it off it's foundation 2 days ago and it's sitting on some cribbing for now. I have to shore up an old frost wall foundation, it's letting some water in on one side. While it's up there I can a couple more things before we sit her down again.

All of our rain went to the northern part of Wisconsin. Then they got dumped on. 10" overnight the other day. Bridges washed out on highways. Meanwhile, we are over 5" below average, and all of our storms are falling apart, or going north or south. Except for Sunday supposedly. We shall see.

Another day of rain here. Went to the garage and started making a list of needs to wire and vent the garage workshop. I have to run power to the garage from the cottage after I install a new 100 amp service panel in the cottage. Then an underground line. Then a sub panel. then build a partition wall, install a roof flashing for class "A", the start on wiring the complete garage so I can insulate and install walls this fall/winter (I hope).

    Yeah, feeling a little overwhelmed!

We had some decent storms roll through. Rained like crazy, along with strong winds.

Went for a walk with my bride tonight. At a house we passed, the owners had a fairly decent looking Cedar arbor out on the curb, with a "Free" sign on it.

My wife loved it, so guess who drove back to pick it up? When I got there the owner walked out and even helped me load it.

Ended up talking to him for a quite a while about landscaping and trees. He and his boyfriend have a great looking yard and he had some good advice and ideas for planting trees.

After I got it home, we put it in the corner of the yard behind the flower garden and it looks like it was meant to be there.

Finished off the night with a beer (me) and some wine (her) by the fire pit on a beautiful night.

It really is about the simple pleasures around here. :)
