Hey y'all I just bought my buddies ms660 with a25"bar 3 chains and access to his 36"bar if the need ever arises, the saw has at most 30 tanks of gas through it he just upgraded to the newer ms661, my question to the experts is this, when he first got the saw her switched everything to synthetic still oils, I have always run the husqvarna XP oil mixture for my 445, 372xp and my 372xp that should be coming back today from a good cleaning (I bought it not running traded some weld work for the carb clean and everything else) also run the XP oil for everything else I run 2 stroke, i have probably 15 gallons worth to mix up for the XP oil, so do I run XP oil in the new saw or keep running synthetic? Does it matter? I don't think it matters so long as my ratio stays consistent but I'm no expert. I run about a45:1 mixture. I'll try to post pics later today thanks for any help!

I'm no expert either but my manual on the 441mag says 50:1 I been using Lucas semi synthetic 2 stroke and my internals look fantastic on my saws. I think you'll be fine. I've heard that you can't switch back and forth but then I heard it was B.S. If the mixture is basically the same, I can't see the problem. I'm sure some of the saw Guru's will be by soon.

I just go by if it says .8 gallons for 40:1 and 1 gallon for 50:1 I just do. 9 just to be on the safe side so pretty close to what it calls for but on the safer side of things

I run all my saws at 40:1. It won't hurt a thing but it will need to be tuned differently.

Huskys seem to need more oil to keep the bearings happy...

I would rather use XP at 45 :1 over stihl synthetic. I don't like stihl synthetic. It stinks bad and never burned clean for me. I run dolmar synthetic and echo red armor with good results. FYI I am told dolmar synthetic is the same as bailey's Woodland pro synthetic.
I even prefer the cheaper dolmar synthetic to the twice the price echo red armor.
Oil is very subjective and what works great for one guy may not be so hot for another. If you have good results with XP then run it. Oh and post a video as well if you can. Lol

I agree with Corey, I wasn't a fan of the Stihl synthetic either. I've tried a bucket load of oils over the years and "I" have had the best results/power and clean engines with the Lucas, 2 stroke semi synthetic. 45 to 1 with more oil in the gas so it can't harm anything, may just lightly smoke.

XP oil is alright. Just keep the saws tuned and you should be fine.

I use BelRay H1-R @ 40:1. I love the smell and it keeps my saws happy.

I use legend, it runs cleaner and smoother than any oil I've tried. Smells great too.
There are also scientific test done other than hearsay that prove its capabilities.

That's the one thing that's mostly turning me away from stihl synthetic is it stinks like crazy, the price however doesn't matter to me, not that I can just throw money around but the fact that if I spend an extra $10 a year on better oil and premium non ethanol fuel to keep all the saws out of the shop for carb problems or worse that extra $10 pays dividends. My biggest worry is just switching, but like I was thinking, it sounds like it's no big deal to play around with different oils.

Stihl ultra is a fine oil, however if the smell bothers you use what you usually do.... "I" use stihl ultra and have for years, on all my saws that I have looked into have looked great... Plenty of lubricant and no excess carbon on piston, which is a problem with to much oil in mix not burning off.....sounds like you take care of your equipment, so you will be perfectly fine.... Nice lookin saw too!!!!

Na!!!! As long as your mixture stays consistent, have fun! try what "smells" the best! Oils today are very well made and are with in the specs of the saw. Now; If you were using Billy jo, Henry, Bobs left foot concoction on a Saturday I might think there might be an issue...:p

I agree, run what you have, it will be just fine. I have been running Yamalube in every 2 stroke motor I own for years now...no problems at all.

Ya know I often wonder if alot of these different oil brands get slandered because someone mixed the gas and oil wrong or it was 3-year old batch.... Because you do hear of alot of people that take care of their equipment use different brands and they never have problems...I believe a lot of it has to do with "operator error"...
