Definetly not an oak leaf, more like elm or ash. Guy said it was ash, but it split like elm. Pics stink but at least I didn't take them We need a sticky with wood pics and ID's.
Hey now, my pics have been on the path to recovery! As a former fuzzy picture taker myself, I feel it is now my duty to lecture others about how bad their fuzzy pics are! Just kidding - I wasn't trying to lecture. I'm "stumped" on the ID, so I tried to make it into a clever joke instead. Guess nobody likes my clever jokes anymore either...
How about leaf pictures? Looks like red oak but if I squint my eyes enough I be able to see elm. Lol. Just some closer pictures would help
Your good bro! Don't cry too hard though we may have to play the world's smallest violin for you! I'm stumped on the wood id too. It's not ash though. I agree a leaf pic would be helpful.
100% not red oak. I believe it to be in the Elm family. Regardless, it was a scrounge from yesterday - guy said it was ash, I said it wasn't and he wanted to argue about it. I just loaded my truck and left.
Is the bark cork like? Can you press you finger nail into it? Peel it off in flakes/layers? All elm has this type bark.
That's the closest pictures I've got of wood that I've processed. The pictures where probably taken 2 weeks after they were cut. So I could see where the colors could loose some vibrance. The leaves were small. Maybe 1.5-2 inches long symmetrical and toothed on the edge. On the one I cut they were pretty holey like chewed on by bugs. Around here the Siberian elms get the biggest. At least the ones I've seen. The other elms die once big enough to be infected by Dutch elm. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this last bit.
