pic 1 - These are the cutoffs im getting for basically nothing. All white oak, some red. Most range from 18-22 in. A few go over that. Anywhere between 9X7, 10x8. pic 2 - Cutoffs before I stacked them today. I quartered this batch. pic 3 - When quartered they come out nice 4x4 squares. Most of them. pic 4 - Pile of shorts, chunks, and uglies from this springs load. pic 5 - Ariel view of main stacks. 15 of them. Right around 30 cord. pic 6 - What I accomplished today. pic 7 - Cutoffs ive got so far. Stack on the left I halved them on the right I quartered. pic 8 - Side view of main stacks. I miscalculated yesterday. With what I put up today I currently have 73 pallets on the ground. Back to the honey hole on Friday to pick up some more cutoffs. Im not quitting until October when hunting season rolls around. Thanks for looking.
Welcome BeechNut. That is a real nice supply you have. I have to ask, are those kiln dried or do you know what the moisture content is? I'm just curious how well they burn for you.
Dang it man! With a hook up like you have, yous gettin a "you suck!"...and welcome to FHC 'nut, you'll fit right in with us here
John, no they aren't kiln dried. I have no idea what the MC is, but they're wet. I will check them in 4 years maybe let them go to a 5th. I'm sure after that long they'll be very nice. This is the first year I've had access to them so I'm not sure how they burn. But when they dry I'll have the windows open in February. Can't wait!
That is a beautiful sight to behold. You are all set for a long time. Now to set up guard duty to protect your stash.
I suspect that in 3 years that oak will be fully dry. No bark on any of it will really aid drying. But, to be able to tell, you'd need a moisture meter.
Sounds like you have a good handle on the whole seasoning/burning process BeechNut ! I suppose you only posted this to see how many of us you can make green???? Good score and keep at that honey hole!
What the heck man!!??!! A new guy to the site and you walk in with a hoard like that!!!! I came to this site with a cord of wet cottonwood that just laughed at me when I tried to light it! Cripes all mighty man have mercy on us!
Nice to see the hoard, BeechNut Your stacks are too pretty. I'm coming up there to shuffle them about.
Welcome aboard Beechnut.....you da man.....keep on a bringin it home till you got nowhere to stack it.
I'm not trying to make anyone green. lol! Just sharing my addiction with all you other sickos like me. Maybe I'm a little bit excessive but I enjoy it.
Most of us share that same enjoyment. Believe me and I think it has been mentioned but I'll assure you it's true. It's good to get several years ahead in case something happens. I'm 5 to 6 years ahead and the Good Lord decided I should slow down a bit with a herniated disc in the back. No problem !!!!!
