Hello all. First time poster wanted to introduce myself. Names Brian and I have the addiction. A little about my wood burning. Heat solely with wood, and a Jotul Oslo. Love the stove. I burn anywhere between 6-7 cord a season. I'm sitting on 32 cord C/S/S. I just came into a real deal on mill cutoffs. All white and red oak. Mostly white. Perfect big blocks. I can't stop. I'm quartering them and stacking them and won't even consider bothering with them for 4-5 years. They come out as perfect squares anywhere between 4x4 up to 8x8. I want to keep getting them all summer as I have plenty of room for them but I'm concerned with getting to far ahead. Is there such a thing? I could literally get myself 7-8 years ahead if I wanted to. My stacks get sun most of the day and plenty of wind. I top cover only with 6mil black plastic stapled down just over the first row on top to hold it in place. Do you think I'll be ok. This score is one of those that I just can't let pass me by. It's consuming me. It's all I think about. I have a true sickness and everyone tells me I'm crazy. Sorry for the long rant. Thanks. Great site.
Welcome BeechNut ! Those oak cutoffs sound great to me. Would love to see some pictures of them. If you have the room, keep on stacking. We like crazy people here.
Welcome BeechNut You don't have an obsession, nor any "sickness" - you are what we here call "sane!" Pics are a must, if you have an issue posting, we'll walk you thru it. But as for the info about your wood? Very gooder on all accounts, some will say leave it uncovered til the time before the approaching season, some will say keep it covered, one or two members never cover it. That far out, I'd cover it eventually. And decent airflow at the ground will keep them bottom rows healthy too. It sounds like you've got access to the honey hole of honey holes, next thing to do(other than keep on hoarding it) is to prove it with pics! You know we love pics, right?
They're the best thing I've ever came across. As far as pics goes, unfortunately I'll be one of those guys that has no avatar pic, posts no pics, and just types. I ride the short bus when it comes to computers. Put it this way, I don't even own a cell phone.
Then you are truly blessed. When I had one for work, I joked they were called cell phones because we were "imprisoned" by them. Don't miss work nor being perpetually on-call ... free at last!
im actually going to check where it's at tonight and charge up the battery. Do you have to have that cable that plugs into your iPad?
Part of the reason I don't own one is because I live in the mountains in PA and where I'm at we get no cell phone reception until you drive like 5 miles down the road. Should get one for when I'm on the road but reception is spotty everywhere until you drive like 35 min away.
Wait, you have an iPad? Alright.....see the "Upload a File" button next to "Post Reply" - when you tap it it says "Choose File" and when you tap it, it gives you the option of "Take a Photo" or to use something from your computer/iPad. Pick "take a photo" and you can upload that pic (it does it automatically when you pick "Use Photo" and you're good to go!
Welcome home. We are all crazy. As long as those stacks are off the ground, should be good to go. Go cut some more.
Welcome to the FHC, BeechNut! You're amongst family here, we're all wood nuts! Whereabouts are you in central PA? I'm just north of Altoona..... I don't think there is such a thing as "too far ahead" when it comes to firewood, I'm at almost 40 cord myself.....I heat exclusively with wood and go through 6-8 cord a year. I harvest all my own stuff doing tree removals.......
Glad to hear you've hit the farrwood jackpot! Welcome to the club and definitely try to get some pics up!
81 pallets is some serious wood BeechNut. Its nice when you can get a score like youre describing. If you have the room then giver You never know when an injury is going to sideline you for awhile so you'll be happy you're ahead if that ever happens to you. Glad you found us!!
These are my firewood guarddogs. Bubba and Bella. Thank you to EricVW for taking me step by step teaching me how to post pics. Plenty to come of the stacks and the cutoff jackpot.
You sir, have "Arrived!" Happy to help you BeechNut - it's what we do here on FHC Now we have to work on "Tagging".....
If you click a "@" then immediately start typing the username (no spaces between the "@" and the first letter of the username), a list of usernames pops up and you pick the one that pertains. Try it out - it sends a more "direct" alert to the person you've tagged....
