I have what some people call "more than enough", but I don't "hoard". Course some people tend to think 100 rounds is more than enough too - but certainly not when I'm target shooting. I have heard of raids where they mentioned the size of a "gigantic stash" of ammo - hmmm, rookies .
I always wonder about that too, what does the media consider a "gigantic stash"? I have an old metal bookshelf I've re purposed to hold my ammo, there's more boxes on that than Wal-Mart ever has. But I don't consider it a "hoarding" amount, I just have enough to withstand a 2 year shortage on centerfire, and about 4 years rimfire and a couple thousand rounds of shotgun shells. I wouldn't consider it hoarding until I had more than a 10 year supply.
I don't hoard. Hoarding to me is having "stuff" you will never use. I buy it and use it. I shoot a lot, so therefore my supply may look large to some, but without constant restocking my inventory drops quickly. Besides, ammo prices rarely go down if you buy it right $ wise. It's a tradeable commodity just like cash, gold, etc.
I like to be well stocked, but I don't consider it hoarding. It seems there's some kind of stigma (perpetrated by the media) attached to having a fair amount of ammo and firearms. Would anyone look at you twice for having a full freezer? Full cupboards? A slip tank of fuel? A full tank of gas in the car?
Right on the money.. I have a range out back and shoot quite often. I can go through anywhere from 50 to 500rnds any given afternoon. Now if some friends come over to shoot for the day we can go through much more than that. If i only bought as i shot it would definitely be hard to find sometimes.
so if a person had say a dozen or so guns (hand, shotguns rifles) and maybe 2500 rounds in each size or caliber that wouldn't be a hoard or excessive would it.. I wouldn't think so..
Really my own opinion is you don't have a lot of guns until you get over 150 or so and need special riders on homeowners and security systems like some of my friemds..
+1, what he said! I buy in bulk a couple times a year when the sales are running and use that up at the range, then repeat...
I need you to convince my wife of that!!! I figure I'll outgrow my gun safe within the next 5-10 years, she seems to think that anyone who can fill up a medium sized safe absolutely doesn't need anymore guns!!
explain to her your guns and chainsaws are like her shoes.. she wouldn't go in a formal dinner and dancing in sneakers or flip flops.. easy for me my wife has at least 6 pair of flip flops... I got 3.. 30-06s.. my mothers (she's passed, but her daddy, a gunsmith, made it for her on her 13th birthday) the one gramps made me and a Remington I use when in woods to save the others.. then when you get kids they need one to learn on.. then a rifle and a shotgun.. the 44 mag. ruger rifle is a short range coy dog killer cause they eat her wild rabbits.. in fact my wife wants her own shotgun cause the 12 gauge kicks too hard.. why we got a 20 gauge... now did I tell her we were shooting hot 3 inch load no.. I forgot
Unfortunately I can't say much about shoes, I had almost as many as she did when we first met!! I'm down to "only" 20 or so pairs of shoes/boots now, probably 1/3 of what she has.
They are called "Sandals" (or so every female I have queried about them said. Even the cheap plastic ones they called sandals). After all, cant wear flip flops at work, sandal yes. I stopped asking.
