Thought I'd post a video of the secondaries while waiting for the wife to get ready to go shopping. After that it's restocking the woodshed. Notice the inner firebox glowing orange a bit. This is something that is becoming the norm, so I'll have to have a sweep check for leaks. Door seems tight.

Nice to see some Castine pics up. If I could fit that in my fireplace opening, I would have one. It is just too tight of a squeeze.

Beautiful burn.. And as for the leak? I would definitely check the left side of that door gasket. Notice the way the flame goes down the left side? That smoke is finding air along that left edge somewhere.

    Beautiful set up WS!

WS, nice set up. You have a pooch that does the same thing as my 2 do. Animals sure do love the heat this time of year.

Just curious, what kind of burn times are you getting from your castine? what are you burning in it? and what kind of space are you heating?

So much burning, and low on time, its very ashy around the hearth. It is a beautiful stove.

Burn times, typically a complete burn cycle maybe 10 hrs tops, and that is if I rake the coals forward and add a round to the back. This will keep the stove at around 300F and will restart a fire with usable coals.

Pretty much everything has been fed to the stove. Ash and oak have been the best obviously. The way I scheduled my wood this year, fall was pear and silver maple, during the cold mostly oak I got for free in the fall ( that I almost completely went through already ) and the rest of the pear and maple planned for the late winter/early spring, which unfortunately I'll be dipping into again soon. I have burned some pin oak scheduled for next year which is burning really well, but again, its for next year.

I am heating around a 1200sqft ranch style home with so so insulation. The stove room/dining room/kitchen which is mostly open concept can easily stay at 75F, even during the coldest days, and will drop to low 60's by morning. The back 2 bedrooms and bathrooms with the help of a small fan will stay in the mid 60'sF but can drop to upper 50'sF at night. There are times when its single digits or less with wind, that I will get up in the middle of the night to reload to keep the temps up. If my memory serves me, this stove will heat up to 1600sqft, but I question that, but I guess insulation plays a huge roll in that. If I were to do it again, I'd go larger stove simply for the larger firebox. Although E/W it will take up to a 20" log, N/S however, 9" is it.......

I like that Castine and the simple corner set-up you have. I am planning a second stove and that may be the result. Although I would have to do a horizontal run out the wall and then up, due to the second story. That makes me lean towards a pellet stove...is that sacrilege?

Maybe that Grey's stove works mini and use pellet vent. Two cords of custom cut and dried hickory and black locust chunks could make it real interesting next winter.

I love my wood stove, but when I get home everyday and the wood stove is just coals? My house is still 73° everywhere! !

I love my pellet stove! Love it! If I had to choose? Pellet would be my choice. To eady. Fill it up and Set the T-stat!

Wood is my supplemental heat, where pellets are Primary. :) Here is the temps when I get home. Whether I am gone 10 hr or 20 hrs

Pellet stoves are a good choice, not sacrilege at all. Many here burn with both, ask Dex.

No. You need Ben Franklin's photo for the test.
