I have an excellent OEM piston from an MS360 that got damaged when a tree fell on it. Can I reuse it with an aftermarket cylinder for an 034 upgrade or am I better off just buying a full cylinder / piston kit? Does anyone sell just the cylinder?
I've not seen a new cylinder sold sans piston. If you are going with an aftermarket cylinder, I'd just run the piston it comes with unless it's really a top-shelf cylinder. Save that OEM piston for a good used OEM jug or another saw.
You can use an aftermarket piston in a OEM cylinder...so why not a OEM piston in a aftermarket cylinder? I have to agree with MM on this one, use the one that comes with it...but just for future reference, the only thing that determines if you can use it or not, other than making sure it is the correct piston for the application, would be piston to cylinder wall clearance. If it is the right piston, with the right clearance...good to go!
It should work fine. Sometimes AM cylinders have excessive amounts of squish, so I would check that before assembly.
