I'm pretty sure it's red maple but the bark is throwing me for a loop. Just never cut any like this before so I'm not ruling out silver. Pretty sure it's not sugar cause it's kinda on the light side. IMG_20160706_201523687.jpg IMG_20160706_193228999.jpg IMG_20160706_193219023.jpg

Looks like my pile of Red maple. The bark is smooth on the smaller limbs, and rough on the older stuff.

I think we're going to have a problem here!

Looks like a nice little stack of red maple. Nice score.

There is lots more to get. This maple base is at least 2ft around and came from a golf course so I'd assume it was pretty branchy. That first pic is a trailer load and there are probably 10-15 more loads of maple, oak, and beech. Gonna get another load today.

Around these parts we just call it soft maple. We have lots of it.

I used Red last winter to good effect on some fairly cold nights.
Didn't hold heat as well as Oak, but I had plenty of coals and some heat after 7-8 hours.

Last year was my first use of it and I was quite surprised how well it does for shoulder season. Hell last year I used it till almost the first of the year.
