UPDATE: took the saw out and cut on that big hickory some more. Cut and split a pick up full and ran out of gas before the saw did. The saw pulls like an angry ox. However, I noticed the paint was flaking off the saw where the case splits next to the bar. About a 1/2" to 3/4" strip from the face all the way down to the bottom of the saw. Not good! So I called the dealer to see if this was a known problem. He says he wasn't sure but "Bring the saw in and we will swap it for one that's right." He took one look at the saw and said that looks like a paint issue. Wish I had thought to snap a couple pictures before I traded powerheads.

Normally I don't nit pick stuff like this but it was a new saw with less than a tank through it. I expected to get a little tube of touch up paint. Couldn't be happier with the dealer right now!

Well that is kind of a bummer glad your dealer did you good over it.
May have just not had the surface prepared properly. My 6100 seems do be holding up and I can not recall any other issues with the paint so hopefully it was that one fluke.

Glad you have had good luck with your Dolly! I've handled more saws than I could count and I've never seen anything like it. I think it was a total fluke. I'm guessing bad surface prep as well. I want to be clear there was nothing mechanically wrong with the saw.

I'm not bummed at all. Dealer did right by me with no questions asked. Didn't care I had run it and didn't try to blame me. I'm looking forward to many years of solid service from this saw.

Do the dealers stock dolmar saws with full wrap handles? I like the dolmars although have never ran any of the new generation stuff. There are no dealers where i live. It seems all the dollys ive seen on fhc had half wrap handles.

My dealer had one. It was a beaut with the full wrap. I was sorely tempted. I think my cfo would have skinned me if I spent the extra cheddar though!

Chainsaws direct has some with full wraps. I think there is a site sponsor who is a dolmar dealer too.

Talk to fordf150. I think that's his handle and I'm pretty sure he sells dolmars. Solid guy from what I have seen. I was going to buy mine through him except I had a great dealer right up the road.

I think I have seen the kits for 75. I have no idea how much extra it would be if you bought the saw that way from a dealer. I'm going to cut with mine awhile to see if it's even necessary. I cut mainly scrounge hardwood tops these days.

Thought I'd revive this thread with an update on the 7910. A couple weeks ago I scored a used 7900 muffler for 5 bucks! 20160629_163522.jpg I finally had the chance today to get it cleaned up and on the saw. I did a little surgery to help it breathe gooder:

I haven't got the carb fine tuned yet (haven't had it out in big wood), but I can already tell a pretty big difference! :zip: on the big wood comment Eric VW

Thats a beaut! It's pretty quickly become one of the best stock saws I've ever run.

I hear that alot from those Dolmar's they obviously come with kool-aid.
I would love to have a 7900. I fear it would just sit too much. I don't have enough big timber. At least that is what I tell myself.

These mufflers buff out quite nicely, too. I did a simple mod on mine and just used a Husqvarna deflector. Mastermind and Poleman did the rest.
