I bet a local taxidermist might have what you need too. They have to trim off excess skin as part of the processes. Might get it for free too.
I bough my wife a pair of these several years ago from this place in NW Ontario. It is basically a sheep skin turned inside out. They are her favorite slippers and with the wool against your feet, your feet are warm, but don't sweat. leather on the outside is tough and durable however she is trying her hardest to wear them out. I bought the kid $20 worth of sheepskins scraps from a local crafter to make a pair, in the mean time he's moved on to a new female interest, so we will see what he comes up with.
