Was driving home from work when I saw two big trailers near the side of the road. There was a sign between them that said, "free rubber tarps". My wood hoarder instincts kicked in and I locked up the brakes. I ended up with nine of them--left plenty for my fellow hoarders. Measured all of them out and marked them with their sizes. Then folded them all up nice and neat. The guy giving them away owns a roofing company. I can only assume these are from a recent tear off. They are quite heavy. Should make for good stack covers this winter once my wood shed is filled to capacity.
Very nice, Frank! That rubber roofing is great stuff. Make sure you have on old clothes and gloves when you wrestle with it.
Very nice find. I picked up a piece of that material a couple of years ago, and keep meaning to look for a bit more. It's so much better than common plastic tarps.
South of Lansing. Drove by there again yesterday and the trailers looked about empty. I will be sure to post quicker next time so others can get in on the action. I drive by this business at least five times a week, and I am sure he will have more in the future.
During the week, when I'm not traveling, I am in Fowlerville... I could use a few of these... Let me know if you see more of them...
That is super awesome find. Around here I can't find any, and I'm looking for about last 3 years. The closest ad I see on the Internet is 90 minutes away, and the guy is selling it, not giving it away.
I will definately keep my eye out for more. I think he was paying his dumpster service to take them in the past. Now that he knows how quickly they will disappeear when he puts them out....
My waste hauling company used to see a lot of this in dumpsters . The last 10 years it has dwindled down to almost nothing . Roofing companies have figured out its $ or at least a giveaway saving them some coin in dumpster fees .
x2... the clear tarp material I found, that was supposed to be UV protected, has turned out to be not so much. Would love to get some roofing material like that...
The ones that had direct sun on them... the clear vinyl between the mesh just dissolves. All of the ones out of the sun are fine. So much for "UV protected"...
Well, that sucks. You take their word for it but, You never know what you're going to get I guess Mine are not in the sun much , maybe they will last a while.
Add to "taking their word for it"... their material is supposedly used for greenhouses... shaa... riiiiiiiiiight.... not impressed.
If I had covered a greenhouse with it and it went to crap, I would really be pizzed. Well, I won't buy any more
Where'd you get yours from? I just got some clear reinforced uv-protected tarps from Yuma: Clear Heavy Duty Greenhouse Tarps They seem to be very well made, reasonably priced (6' x 30' for $32.50), and I figured the folks in Yuma AZ should know about uv-resistance. That oddly-dimensioned tarp sure closed up all the gaps that existed between the old assemblage of tarps. Nicely done edges & grommets too. It'll take a few years to see how they hold up. I'll let you know.
Got them the same place you did, so did Stinny There's nothing wrong with mine they're in great shape so far, (2 of em 6x12) I like them but, I know Stinny got his the same place so I'm not going to buy anymore
