this gem came in from bailey's today and there is very little that it won't split. it is a definitive whacker. i really like the helko line and was tempted by their gorgeous stuff and held back because their head weights are 6.6#, and 7.7#, and sometimes you need every ounce. the iso core i got is forged in taiwan and assembled in vietnam as others have reported. a whack or two or three and everything comes apart. there shouldn't be very much wedge work owning this thing. i worked on an unruly pile of oak with plenty of knot pieces and got through everything. the blow itself and its effect is so mesmerizing that you don't concentrate on feedback from the handle. i forced myself to stop grooving on the wood cracking and gave attention to vibration coming to the hands. it does seem that there is less vibration and shock, although however nice the 'iso core' engineering in this regard, i'm not stout enough to swing it long enough to get a dose of logger hands. who knows maybe i will toughen up one day. this tool is part of a trinity acquired since being schooled by you guys. i now work with a 4' stihl cant hook, a council 1.5# hookeroon, and the iso core. i am going to stick with the iso core for splitting and use the x25 for the odd bit of processed firewood that needs to be split again to fit the stove. i've cut and split a lot of firewood over the years but really didn't know the full score before coming here.
I have heard good things about them, if I didn't have hydraulics, I would probably get one, I don't even use the x.25 very much at all. What is the weight of the iso core? Edit, ok it's 8# What is the diameter of the Striking head?
I've split about 3 cord with my isocore, great maul , no funny vibrations and splits well , I've beat on a few wedges with no ill effects. No buyers remorse with this one. Mighty Mouse Logging LLC
The wide face on this thing, kicks azz!! poundin in some wedges hard to miss with this Rise it up and drop it
I think amazon has them for around 55. But I can not remember if it had free shipping. I would like to try one as well.
I got mine at my local True Value Hardware, they had to order it, $60 and no shipping and you get to support the local guy.
Paid $57 for mine https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014M9LQGG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Well you guys talked me into spending money. My isocore arrived today. Now I need to try it out beside my X-27.
2 different tools , I'm 5'8" at 180 lbs , I enjoy using my X25 , GB splitting maul of the same size and the new Stihl polyamide splitting axe with the GB being my favorite of the lot . I find the Isocore being the go to giterdone tool I'm grabbing first to bust up the bigger rounds and then picking up the others to split to size .
