I dont remember any bubbling of any Wood? Maybe I missed it. But all of his firewood was there for close to a decade. Didn't take much more than a look... And after seeing pics of stacks 4 years ago on H.co, that are still at his place? Not sure much bubbles would form from that.. Unless someone soaked it in a bucket of water before it was thrown on!
If it soaks in a bucket, it is.. Many smokers do this with their Wood to prevent it from burning. Just smolders this way
Somewhere lost on these pages is a pic of a fire (maybe it was a stock photo posted as a joke) at the gtg at Backwoods that showed a fire with wood burning that had moisture bubbling out of the end grains of the piece as it burned in the fire pit. Probably a joke ? I can't find it....
It was no joke. I was there. TurboDiesel took the pic. Now what may have happened is this.... Someone slipped a "less than seasoned" split in there for grins and giggles? I doubt that, but such a slick move woulda been kinda funny. I think it was one piece that just couldn't bare to give up it's moisture until heated. 'Twas a mysterious thing tho, and has made for a good laugh more than once since then.
The age, checking of the wood (almost split itself in half), and the bark peeling? It's still ok. Probably 50% better than most others here that say they have seasoned wood. I've seen his stash. And he doesn't need to burn wet wood. 50 years of burning Wood, I doubt my man would throw some wet oak into his stash for last winter.
Thanks.. It's a 30' x 40' Cleary. I don't store much back there these days. Winter equipment stays back there in the summer and summer equipment (quads, mowers, rototiller, kids bikes, etc) go back in the winter.
