Found a new dog gander a guess at breed?

Coming home from town and this little guys was just laying in the middle of the road. Stopped at 4-5 houses nearby and one woman said he was following a road crew picking up trash. Talked to those guys further down the road and they said he'd been following them for a while (other side of state highway).

Canvased the area and no one claims him, freshly groomed ~1yr old, have a couple found adds put up and my vet will chip test him tomorrow - he thinks it's a high end pure bred.

My thoughts a terrier mix. One thing for sure his drive is "ON" trying to get it on with the dog beds
He may stick around if no one claims him, but Billy Bob has been fiercely against him

 

I think he needs a pair of goggles....maybe Billy Bob will accept him then!

 

Billy Bob has been excessively aggressive towards him -growling as soon as I let the new bugger out of the truck
thought I had it licked a few minutes ago after the new dog (calling him Dudley) finally submitted and rolled for a dong sniff - but that doesn't appear to satisfy the craving for pack master

Hopefully his owners claim him, then Billy Bob can resume his normal routine. If not, "normal" will need to be redefined.

 

He's a handsome pup and hasn't been neutered so possibly a purebred -or just a mutt that got loose
short stubby bugger, his legs were groomed well and look like oak trees to his 15lb body. Gave him a flea bath from noticeable fleas, but not excessive biting/digging scaring

 

Looks schnauzer-ish.

 

Well since he's only humping pillows and dog beds, that eliminates this little guy from being part Mississippi leg hound.


I definitely see Yorkshire terrier in the dark fur .

That tail seems to be working well ...

 

If that was a purebred terrier, chances are his ears and tail would be cropped (I know a few don't, but most do). Schnauzer or schnauzer-mix is a good guess, but not having a true schnauzer cut, it makes it harder to tell (muzzle looks a bit too round, but longer beard would change that look). Certainly not a show dog with that type of cut and no cropping. Doesn't mean he's not purebred, but most breeders do the cropping as they can't be shown otherwise and you don't crop after they get older so you can tell what show potential they have.

At least he seems to be well taken care of - being friendly and well groomed. Hope you find the owner soon - I'll bet they are worried sick about him.

A different "dog culture" down in the South...no?...a little more free? Seems to be a bunch of rescue groups that round em up by the truck full and bring em up north. Puppies at the SPCA are pretty much unheard of around here.

Pretty much, people just let dogs run. You see them all pack up when a female is coming in heat.

 

Just got back from the vet - no chip.
After some head scratching he thinks the dog is a PBGV - Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen
They don't dock tails on this breed

 

It took a long time to get to this point. But the laws imposed have been effective. When you go to the pound to look for a pup, what you see are cages full of mixed breed pit bulls. Our pounds are importing pups and dogs from closed dog mills from the south and Puerto Rico. My two daughters each own a dog brought up from the south. Dogs were very timid at first, but after a year, they settled in like they always belonged here.
