I don't think he made it. Makes you think what the hell people are doing if in fact this X-Ray has not been doctored in any way. Or maybe his wife just got tired of him always playing with his chainsaw and showed him she could use it as well. Either way not a pleasant vision.
Interesting, but my dollar says it's fake. The bar is outside of the ribs which means it must enter a space outside of the sternum / ribs but inside the skin - there isn't much room there for a bar and chain.
I'm betting kickback. Glad and surprised he made it, but that should have shocked everyone there. He has a future as an OPE safety lecturer. "See folks, this is what can happen if ... " then show slide of x-ray and pic of sutures.
Dang! Almost Aussie tough right there! I think I need some Listerine tho- kinda threw up in my mouth a bit when I read that
The story in the article clears it up. The bar is not inside the guy, only the tip is. I assumed the entire bar was embedded in his chest, which is correct. That explains why the ribs and sternum isnt visible in the X Ray.
I would expect to see air,,a bunch of air introduced into the wound channel if the entire bar was embedded.
That happened very near to Pittsburgh, PA, IIRC.....not far from me at all. The guy lived and was VERY lucky. The first responders, by leaving the B/C in his chest, very likely help save his life.
Looking at the rest of the pictures it looks as though the bar tip got him in the neck. He was absolutely lucky that it did not go deeper. The X-Ray does appear to look like the bar and chain is just laying on top of him. At first I thought it was fake also. It is amazing what can end up in people and show up on a X-Ray. Way to go Röntgen.
