Went to the hardware store yesterday and bought the paint to do the Faux Stone arch behind the Little Whitfield.
Gotta lay that out on paper and get a good plan going before I fly at that task.

A bit of tedious work taping off the pattern of the stones before tossing the paint at it.

Just a small area of wall near the entry way that still needs paint, otherwise things are getting close to wrapping up.

What a project this has been.

    Some piccy's
Still a bit of clutter around, but getting real close to calling it good.

Good, I like cooked, but not turned to charcoal. Parm is a nice addition.

Yesterday I fiddled around with the "Faux stone" backdrop and mantle idea for the little Whit.

Started locating studs in the wall to hang the mantle on and built the brackets.

Got side tracked a bit with having to help the daughter hook up a new electric fence controller in the afternoon, but did manage to get the mantle mounted for a dress rehearsal (locate and drill holes so the finished Faux stone won't get messed up later)

The plan has changed a bit from the original "hatchling" to something far more dramatic.

Gonna pull out the stops and go for the gusto.

The "fireplace look" is now going to go all the way to the ceiling and have a Faux Wood box on the left side with a stack of "Faux firewood" stacked in it.

I had to offset the mantle to get to a stud (Area) that the stud locator did not start screaming ELECTRICITY

This decision led me to adopt the idea of a sloped/angle stone look that goes all the way to the wall on the left side and straight up on the right side

Then last night the idea of the wood box thingy crept into the picture.

Still looks rather bleak with just the mantle bolted to the wall, but things are gonna progress fast now me thinks.

Here in a bit (After copious quantities of COFFEE I will get after it.

Gonna be a tape extravaganza to get this beast ready to paint.

Still not sure what color to finish the mantle.

May finish it natural or ?????????
Gonna wait and see what things look like after the "Faux Stone" is done and then make a decision.

Here is a rough concept sketch.
Scale is poor, but the basic idea is there.
I did not sketch in all the areas with stones, so the open areas will all be painted with odd shaped bricks/stone ??? Pebbles

When it's done it should be a grand illusion of a majestic fireplace/hearth.

    Fun fun fun.

    Great looking fish.

My father in law was a life long lover of bass fishing.

Went after the Faux fireplace hearth with a vengeance today.

Everything is in tape now, and will paint it tomorrow.

    Here are today's pics

One piccy is of a fireplace I spotted online and loved the concept.

    The blue tape really sucks

    Sooooooooooo.

I got the paint out to do the stones and went after it a while ago.

There are a few small places that the paint bled under the tape and I need to touch them up a bit to get things real neat.

    Otherwise all went great.

Still have some work to finish, but happy with the results

    I'm still thrashing on it
Touching up the places the grey bled under the tape
I got the flat black to do the wood box opening

Just touched up the archway on the wood box

Tedious work with a small brush
Still have a bit of touch up behind the left side of the stove

    Thanks much on the comments

No days off for me , my last day off was June 5th , and I don't see one coming anytime soon either , we need some rain down here bad , scrambling to keep everything alive and green . Weekends are great that means 1/2 day , and less people to be responsible for :thumbs: almost a day off .
Blue Smoothies are flowing here :drunk:
