:rolleyes:About a year, year-n-half ago I posted about a friend of mine setting up a wood business. I helped him with a bunch of steel for his processor , he had great expectations, as did I. Processor is still not complete.
But- yesterday morning he showed up with a load of log length for me. 90% dead standing so when I get done with that pile it should be good for this winter.
My question- he brought it over in a military 6 x 6- 5 ton. The pile is what you would expect from someone off-loading 12' logs by hand, about 8' tall and 18' diam. Wife said it looked like someone threw a bunch of big toothpicks in a pile. He said 5-6 cord loose, might stack to 4.5-5 tight, after splitting and stacking.
Anyone have experience with the wood capacity of a 6 x 6?
    JB

Me too. I won't be able to attack it until the 4th of July weekend.
Based on the scant amount of information of the size, anyone want to guess on the net amount? Wish I could do the picture thing, sorry for that.

Sounds like your friend is saying "cords" when he means "face cords." One actual full cord is three typical face cords, so 4.5 "face cords" is 1.5 actual cords. Stacked tightly in a 6x6 trailer, that would be a little over 5' high.

Jon I think he means one of these:
    anigif.gif
6x6 refers to them being 6 wheel drive.

IIRC the bed on the M939s were 8 feet wide by 12-15 feet long. The stake sides were nine feet from the ground to the top of the rails. Thats all i got. I'm not an old military iron buff. My Grandpa had one on the farm.

Well, a log truck holds about 7-8; my guess would be 5 cords, I'd say your pal is about right.

At first glance I thought it was a deuce and a half. If it is a five ton then it would be very close to 5 cord. As for MPG figure about 2 miles to the gallon as a deuce and a half gets about 4 MPG, I know a guy that shows his Deuce at truck shows. Guess those guys are as crazy as the FHC members.

You have to share that popcorn Eric or else don't bring it unless you have enough for everybody.

I don't want popcorn, I want to fire up the 346 and get to work. Alas, it will have to wait another week.
Barcroftb pegged it, it was one of the big 6 x 6's. He uses it for rough terrain wood retrieval, picking up another one soon.

I looked the pile over pretty good, a bunch I only need to cut-to-length, maybe 1/3 of the pile goes over 10" diam. so it should process pretty quick.
I'm thinking he's pretty much on the money. 4 cord, maybe close to 5 when it's all said and done. I shall let you know.
