This probably should have gone with another thread that had a video of this woodpecker at work. That is a huge hole he has created. Tough pecker for sure.
There's no milk crate, so there's that. Cool pic though. Seriously one of my favorite birds, right behind hummingbirds.
We had a Pileated Woodpecker land on a stump from a pine we cut down two years ago, he kept looking for the rest of the tree until he finally flew off, we had a good laugh.
They make a heck of a racket. I know that when they start on a tree, it is doomed. Maybe it was before they started, but is is certain after they get going.
But the pileated are not the only one with bragging rights to their peckers. "Mine is longer than yours!"
Love watching the hummingbirds. Their flight is like no other. We grow a lot of flowering plants to keep them very busy. Some use the hummingbird feeder, but most prefer the flowers.
