My bike throws the police off. The dual full yosh pipes on my big twin sport bike don't sound like most bikes that look like this, if you know what I mean. They'll hear me coming, but don't know what they are looking at.

I had a customer that had that exact setup, I loved to hear him coming. I hate the riding position of sport bikes (6'4") but I loved riding that bike, sounded sooooo sweet! I would consider owning one just because of the way they sound...

Wow! Awesome! I take it you bought a nice BMW jacket and new gear as well? :emb:
I have been back and forth on getting a low boy on mine. I really don't want anymore noise, but the under seat cans are a bit warm on a hot day. $1k for a small performance gain. I really like the looks of the dual under cans too as most everything has a low pipe on it now. Wish I could ride today...back into the woods for more chores.

Thank you RCBS, no,,,no purchase of BMW gear, it was a private sell which included a helmet labeled BMW.
Fortunately my old jacket, which had served me well, still fits!!

A word of caution here, it's been many years since BMW produced a BMW labelled helmet. Helmets have a shelf life even if unused, I use them for 3-5 years max. Schuberth is the manufacture of those BMW labelled helmets, VERY good helmets.

I had heli bars on mine, then replaced them with Driven riser bars. Those are even better than the heli bars . I'm 6'4" 250, and it's very comfortable to ride all day. The Corbin seat goes a long way too.

Btw, hated the stock clipons, they were horrible. A set of riser bars will alleviate most uncomfortable bike clipons with no modifications needed to run them.

On my bike, the stock exhaust weighs about 50 lbs. The full yosh exhaust is just under 20 lbs total. It's a good 10+ hp on my bike, equity great gains on tq too. I forget the exact numbers, but it's impressive. Just a bolt on muffler (s) are pretty much for sound, with a little bit of performance gain and a bit lower weight.

Shoei helmets recommends replacing a helmet after 5-7 years. It has to do with the EPS foam giving reduced protection in the event of a crash. Look at the date in the helmet, that will tell you a lot.

All helmets sold in the U.S must have a DOT sticker indicating that they have passed a DOT standardized test for the helmets safety. The date of manufacture information is a requirement for the DOT sticker. There was a time period when the BMW/Schuberth helmet was not available for purchase in the U.S. Schuberth refused to submit the helmets for DOT testing because they are "modular" helmets with the hinged chin piece. I believe at the time Schuberth was the only company manufacturing this type of helmet. DOT did not have a specific testing procedure for this type of helmet, and would not test or issue a DOT sticker for the helmet. Shuberth did not want to open themselves up to the legalities of selling a limited number of helmets in this country. Other companies have since begun to market "modular" flip up chin bar type helmets, and I believe the DOT now has a standard test. Many BMW riders knew about the Schuberth helmets and their very high quality and crash protection standards, didn't care that they weren't DOT approved and went through the trouble of purchasing the helmets outside of the U.S. The date of manufacture information for these older non-DOT BMW/Schuberth helmets may not be apparent.

In actuality the DOT helmet testing is a sham when compared to the much more rigorous "Snell" or "ECE" standards. You can in fact purchase counterfeit DOT stickers and put them on any helmet you like. Many of the "puddin bowl" type helmets favored by the riding crowd that is more interested in style than actual crash protection use these to their ingnorant bliss. I believe the ECE standard has the year embedded in the code that is placed on the helmet. I personally wouldn't use a helmet that didn't pass the ECE standard. Ironically the BMW/ Schuberth helmets that did not get a DOT sticker passed both of these more rigorous standards with flying colors.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the BMW helmet that came with the sale of the R1200C as long as it fit properly and I could verify that it wasn't more than 5 years old.

Excellent. I hate to be a safety nanny, but like to promote wearing protective gear. Sounds like you have it under control.

My mufflers are on the heavy side, but that helps to...uhh...that makes the front end come up easier. Only a pony or three to be found by changing. She is by no means portly though at 416lbs ready to ride.

"puddin bowl"  Very good info there Dave. My helmets are not ECE, but all are SNELL rated. I did once see one of the "bowls" help a guy to be a little less injured. Buddy's FIL was out riding his 650 Burgman scooter with us and tried to keep pace with a Suzuki super moto on an inverse corner and went down. 25mph lowside into a grass field. The puddin bowl managed to keep most of his face up off the ground, but he still had a little rash on his right cheek. It was for sure better than absolutely nothing at all in that case.
What's the purpose of having a bike if no one knows it's you riding it (can't see your face)? :loco: :hair: :)

Yes, ABS. This bike, allthough an '02 model, is the nicest bike I've owned. Have a bunch of ride time on my brothers DL1000 the past couple years and really enjoy that bike. The '92 vx1100 I recently parted with was a maintenance nitemare!!
