Day off today. First half will be spent at school assembly for awards for reading books. All three kids being awarded for reading so many. Then school picnic for elementary. I will get to eat lunch with all three, then watch them run/play in several bouncy courses and houses they have for them. Along with some other games for them to play. Hopefully home by 1 and can then get doing some outside work. Another great weather day today. Looks like 84 this afternoon. Prolly be a little hot to work in, but 84 is alright.

Just a bit of excitement on our morning romp in the woods today. I think it was just born last night, as it could just barely walk. I got the hounds away as quickly as possible. Oakley the hound in the pic would not respond to my recall so I had to go investigate. When I got there he was only licking the fawn, so hopefully no damage done.

That is so cute - glad the hound was gentle!

They just had an article from NH F&G about people who think fawns have been abandoned because mama isn't in sight. The article explains how newborns, having no scent, are safer when she's not around, so she leaves them for hours at a time. She'll be back a couple times a day for feeding and when the fawn is more mobile, she'll stick closer.

Looking forward to an outdoor show at 5 today in Farmington. Didn't think I was gonna be able to make it. Bishop Avenue is at the Stone Hearth Cafe. The lead singer and bass player come here to the house to play every few weeks... and the lead guitarist they've got with them today is gonna be a real treat. He ought to be able to really rip it up. The Trek Across Maine 3 day bike ride lands in Farmington tonight too. Should be lotsa folks in town. Can... not... wait... :rootintootin:

Well guys the border excitement last nite.. daughter is visiting cousin's in Connecticut for week.. Wife and I are home alone for 2 days:D.. I love my wife but those of you with families understand getting just time to talk and connect is hard!

So we were on back deck 6 o'clock having some drinks and Shepherd goes nuts yup some one coming up driveway! a little autistic (12yo) boy been missing for hours OK that explains helicopter for an hour.. I call neighbors .. they say yeah its all over facebook! I check that 1x a month..

So as usual were last to know.. 2 more cars stop by next 15 minutes.... I got 1/4 mile drive next to farm. they think he's in woods:doh:

Well so I say listen if he's in these woods I can go find him faster.. we had little tornado some years back..... all trail between neighbors 300 acres lead to log landing on back 40..... I got only road scross swamp.. now I had more than my 2 drinks so no car driving...but I got :tractor: my trails so i go out looking..

They found him around 10 pm.. his little sister is in daughters class.. I know parents.. the multiple birthday party thing.. good people.. so he's home safe... Praise the Lord and hoping I get to see and spend time with my wife tonight but guessing something else will hapoen:headbang:

never ending battle, right now the unset acorns from the big white oak are just starting to tail off, thunderstorms every night knocking pine needles in.

New job title has been OK, should be better when I get the two open positions filled. Pretty much having to do 2-3 jobs right now.

No sign of mama this morning and no sign of the fawn this afternoon:). When I let the hounds out this afternoon, I kept an eye on the young ones for a few minutes, they hung around the house, but as soon as they saw I wasn't looking they tried to beeline it to the spot where the fawn was this morning, about 500 yards away.

Still no bites on the house, we're considering not selling, and renting the current house, the prospect is a little scary with two in college. We found a nice chunk of land, a building lot with a large tree growth lot, backed up to thousands of acres of timber company land, getting close to buying that, trying to work out the plans.

I'm guessing it was just dumb luck that he found the fawn, there was no indication that he was tracking a scent, he's usually pretty vocal.
