Supposedly, optics should cost *more than the rifle they will live on. I am not a man of unlimited means, so that's tough for me to abide by as well. I have as much in my rings & scope on my Savage FV-SR as I paid for the gun...maybe a little more. I did get a great deal on it thought at $199. I have basically the same rings & scope on my custom 10/22 though which ended up north of $700 when finished. I went round & round with Tasco & Bushnell and finally settled on Nikon. I do have a Mueller and a Sightron also that work well. I have yet to dive into a true "high dollar scope". Honestly, my eyes can't tell the difference between a $400 unit and a $1400 one and I dont shoot long distance or large caliber.

I've always heard you should spend that much on optics as well. I could probably justify a nice scope for a centerfire rifle, but I can't see a $200 scope making my 10/22 or Model 60 shoot any better than it already does with a $60 Nikon.

Rimfire ammo isn't consistent enough, IMO, to justify a high dollar scope. And really, unless you are a "pro" or shooting from a lead sled...you likely aren't going to be a good enough shooter to do a high dollar scope justice with a centerfire rifle either (at least with me).

There is consistent ammo out there. It is usually moreso the shooter. I shoot off a bench a good deal with my 22s. Depending on whether I do my part or not and what ammo I'm feeding, they will hold 3/8 or so groups at 50 yards, which translates to 3/4 at 100. 3/4" MOA is respectable for any rifle. I most assuredly cannot pull this off when off the bench, but...I know it isn't the gun when I miss...it's me.

Ordered the BSA Sweet .22, gotta be better than a $20 tasco , although I'm doing pretty good with the tasco , shot a few of em a few years ago, had open field of view , now , I have wood stacks in the way:D
I'm going to bait these SOBs with cantaloupe and pick em off:)
I was thinkin about gettin up on the shed roof
I wish I had a window in the back ,I would shoot em from there , can't open the door n shoot when I see em cuz the cat will get out:rolleyes:

Can't say I have, but with some rigging shouldn't be hard to pull off. Likely there is an accessory for just that out there somewhere. I usually use sand & bean bags, or bipod.

I always had luck in the evenings when it starts to cool down.

Figured someone made them. Amazon Prime is nice.

    So...pics of dead groundhog coming...Tuesday? :rootintootin::ithappened:

I used to do my fishing in the mornings and groundhogs in the afternoon. I'm sure they are like us and want some breakfast when they get up though.

They don't seem to be very accurate for me. Not junk....but not great.

I have 9 bricks of those, I've only been through the first 2 but they've given me more jams and FTF's than any other bulk .22 I've ever used. In spite of the "match" name, they haven't been accurate in any of my .22's either, even my bolt actions.

It seems there's good lot runs and bad lot runs, and the 2 I've used so far are bad. I'll probably not buy any more, but some people have had decent luck with them.

$25 isn't that much money to give them a shot yourself. But Thunderbolts and Golden Bullets are often sold for $5 more, and those are 500 packs.

This was my best 10 shot group at 75 yards of automatch today. I was shooting from a picnic table using a diaper box for a rest.:emb:

That's for sure minute of groundhog shooting there! I have some automatch. My Stock 10/22 likes it pretty well.
Glad to see someone is getting some shooting in.

Need to adjust a little left and up...but not bad. The boys shot pretty well too. Each had 5 bullseyes on their last 20 rounds. That bolt gun is dead nuts on and the trigger is awesome.

Well out of 30 rounds with the federal champion I got 0 jams
30 rounds of the federal automatch, I got 3 jams
With the Tasco scope on there at 50 yards, I'm getting in a 3-inch Circle but still shooting a little high, standing using the bipod.
I need practice and probably do better when the new scope gets here
