I haven't even used this gun in a while, scope got knocked out of whack, so I was sighting it in, after 30 rounds I figured out I was turning the adjustments the wrong way, got it sighted in pretty good now though.
I got some varmints I got to kill.
Went to Gander Mountain and bought a couple hundred rounds of the only thing they had Federal champion LR.
I don't know much about this stuff but I want something that's accurate as I can get that will work good in this gun.
Not worried so much about price on it, not going to be using a lot of rounds once I'm sure it's shooting good.
I'm a knob on this stuff so any recommendations and information would be great..

Mines been a problem child and I love LOVE savage. So it's hard to say anything bad about them.
Trigger was snapped out of the box, now a few thousand rounds later the magazine has failed.

    To answer your question....
I like anything copper plated generally American made. Imo the rifle is borderline accurate enough to bother with any match ammo.

This really depends on how large your varmints are and how far away you expect to be shooting them. Those Federals might be fine, they shoot pretty well out of most of my guns.

But for larger critters (groundhogs) I'd go with CCI Velocitors or Minimags like mdavlee said. Velocitors have more power, but my guns seem to be more accurate with minimags, which are still no slouch when it comes to power.

For smaller critters (squirrels, chipmunks) CCI Velocitors will be fine, but I prefer standard velocity rounds like CCI Standard Velocity or Remington Target. Almost all of my rifles shoot a little more accurately with standard velocity ammo, and solid points are just as deadly for smaller game as hollow points.

Aguila makes some pretty good .22 ammunition as well, so if you can only find that on the shelf don't pass it up.

The key thing to remember about accuracy is that all guns like different bullets. I have a Ruger 10/22 that's as accurate with cheap Remington Golden Bullets as it is with anything else, but it hate's velocitors. But my buddy has a 10/22 that's the exact opposite, it's very accurate with Velocitors but it won't shoot Golden Bullets worth a darn.

    Thanks
I should have said groundhogs is what I'll be takin out ,occasionally a coon , at 50 yds or less ,75 max.
The Federals seem to work good ,no misfires at all, I'll have to go out to the gun shop and see if I can find CCI Velocitors or Minimags

CCI Mini Mags have worked well for me in the past. Federal & CCI are the same company, so those champions actually may be CCI made. I have a box of CCI segmented hollow points that I need to try out. Info: CCI Ammunition - Product Detail

Video is of the subsonics, the regular loads are as fast as the Stingers, which are also an awesome varmint round if your chamber will accommodate.

I was told way back when to use the same ammo I practice with as I use for hunting. As a matter of preference, I prefer Winchester and Federal, though will grudgingly use Remington.

    I don't own a 22 of any kind though.

And prairie dogs! Sure would love to go do that again sometime.

Took this rifle out to Montana and had a real good time.

Wife has one almost identical to that one. Hers is the pink and red stock. It loves that hornady ammo.

That one's favorite ammo is Federal TNT. My Marlin likes MaxiMags.

I have the BSA scope on my 10/22. You can pick it up on Amazon for $50 shipped.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NJUPAS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is OK...the clarity isn't perfect, but for the price it is hard to beat.

I have this one on my bolt gun. I got it on sale for $80.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ABP4KNM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The clarity is much better and much more compact. I think I'm actually going to switch the on my guns.

As for ammo, it's hard to go wrong with CCI MiniMag 36 gr HP's (0031). They are very consistent, cycle great in a semi-auto, and should have no trouble downing a 'chuck.

I have been liking the offerings from Nikon for my rimfires. Most models in the $150 range or so. Very good quality and clarity for the money. At certain times they offer some decent rebates. I also like the Burris Signature Z rings.

I'm having a hard time thinking of buying a scope that costs as much as the gun
