It's finally snowing pretty good with some winds, burning down a few big gnarly hunks, a load of beech will be going in for the overnight burn.
Around 40, I get run out of the room if a small fire is kept going all day. I like burning...just not running out of wood.
-10 on the back porch this morning with a slight wind right now. The boiler is doing better now that I closed the damper on the intake. When it gets this cold if I leave the damper open all the way the fan on this unit sucks in a lot of frigid cold air and it cools the boiler too much. It is keeping up better.
-28°C = -18.4°F right now. Locust and Elm in the T5 this morning Temps are supposed to rise all week but with big winds till Friday?
I have a indoor wood boiler burning to storage. All the extra heat goes to storage and the house stays at an even 72 throughout.
-14.3 this morning on the Radio Shack Special, if we have any winds the big white pines are blocking most of it. We ran both stoves last night, wood & pellet. The basement temp is 81 this morning, the living room upstairs 70 and the bedroom 68.
That's the first thing I noticed when I woke up this morning was that the wind has died down. We are at 10 degrees right now. It was cold enough last week, I even apologized to my truck before I started her up.
That wind finally dying down is a huge blessing. I hear you on the truck...... I drove my wife's rav 4 everywhere last week to avoid having to start my diesel. It starts just fine but takes forever to warm up and half my trips are 10 miles or less.
That pellet stove is what saved us from burning any oil, when your wood stove is burning down coals early in the morning the pellet stove is still pumping out the heat. This cold snap (so far) is not like the last, much warmer.
My main ride is a pure chick magnet, 2012 white minivan. It is a company car and they get rotated out every 100,000 miles or three years. When I start it in cold weather I cringe at the sounds it makes but am glad it's the van and not my truck. I don't plug my truck in and it starts every time, the grill has the cardboard and bungee strap cover to help with the temp. It takes a long time too warm up. The T6 is earning its keep. My house is small and drafty but the T6 keeps me warm so far.
Same here Certified, not much wind but a little warmer. 11º. Tues prediction -2º for a high with wc at around -40. Yuch....and on my birthday none the less. Hopefully I can stay in somewhere. About 5 years ago on that day I was outside digging up the septic box in the snow. Talk about a shi**y birthday.
So they say it's gonna get cold this week I'm kinda feelin' they may be on to something, soooooo, I was out by the stacks today and carried in some 7 inch x 22 inch locust rounds, some half splits of the same stuff, same size, and a couple arm loads of white oak. I've been burning red oak cut to 18 inches, but this stuff is all cut to 22 I ain't playin' around!
My pellet stove has been working overtime to keep the camp in the forties during several cold spells. The nice big windows make for a beautiful view in the front room, but man are they a cold magnet!
And, here's the oslo loaded up with a mixed bag and runnin' at 600 degrees, right when I cut 'er back and let 'er glide
