Go out in the woods when it's 90+ degrees and break rocks and bring them back to her for her gardens.
You are correct. She'd much rather have stones for landscaping than stone as jewelry. She's definitely a keeper.
I did the same thing as you guys, mike bayerl and Splitsnstacks, except I did it at 5:30 this morning....and it was only one. I'm a light weight compared to you guys
Ruh roh shaggy, I may have to haul rocks from the rock pile that was made by farmers many decades ago at my woodlot. I gave the wife an idea, and now I may have to act upon it. We're going to make a planter around a big ash is the front yard right by the road. It'll make mowing the lawn/ trimming there easier and it'll look nice. Now we just have to decide whether to use the pre fab blocks, or haul field stones.
Mike, that sounds like my wife. She has been craving rocks for all our married life. For sure every time we go on vacation, she has to pick up some rocks to take home. Tries to hide them so I won't throw them out. The craziest one though was one time, I won't say when or where but we were a long ways from home and she had to stop at a grocery store. As we drove into the parking lot, it was lined with rocks. So, I had to park close to some with the motor home between the store and the rocks and I'm a bit ashamed to say we took a couple of those rocks. Well, it pleased her.... Tractor works much better for hauling rocks than does a motor home.
I think you'll find a lot of women these days really don't care for jewelry, especially with high dollar stones. The money could be better spent elsewhere! I have probably $40k to $50k worth of jewelry like that. (diamond tennis bracelet with 3.5 carats of diamonds in 18k and matching necklace for starters) I just don't have the heart to sell any of it since each has a specific memory behind them. However, I'm not so sure I would want the gift of boulders either! But that's because I have tons and tons of em! My rock gardens really are nothing but rock. (a collection of rocks from when I do digging around my property. All sizes and shapes, from a couple inches across to over 3 feet across weighing from a couple of ounces to around 500 or 600# with more to come)
I too moved several rocks and retainer wall blocks over the weekend. So thankful I bought a grapple, kinda concerned that wife understands the capabilities of a grapple though...
Something about firewood and rocks. We landscape our yard with rocks I get from the mountains. We get a few here and a few there. Mostly where building is going on and we get permission. But sometimes a rock will disappear from the side of the road. I guess its the hoarder instinct we all have.
We have a pile of rocks out back, and she works off of that pile when she needs some. We grow them here, every spring the frost leaving the ground heaves them up, we add them to the pile and more come next year.
Same here. At my mom's place there is almost no topsoil left. the grass and ground covers don't stand a chance
