Best advice I can think of is don't pay attention to them - just sit close and read or something with your back or side to them. Don't look at them, don't make eye contact, although you could softly talk (or read) to them. Don't do any clicking noises (as if you were trying to call them). Their curiosity and craving for companionship may draw them. It will be a big experience in patience for you, but shy animals need to make the first move.

Stray cat is coming back today, shelter is full and rescue too full to take adults. I was told to "home" her. I worry after the trauma of being caught yesterday, caged, overnight at the vet, then being spayed this morning she might split. Should I set her up in the bathroom or something like that?

I think I will need to get a trap from the animal shelter for them.

Well kitty cat was definately dumped, she is a tame house cat. Walking back and forth under the lil ones frilly tutu purring like crazy. It appears I will have to retrain the dogs, they have not had a cat in the house since 2010/2011.

Just got back from vet. Bentleys spine was all fugged up. He had vertebrae going every which way but straight. He should be back to normal very soon doc said. And they said he's fat. 96lbs. 10 lbs gained since January. You can still see his ribs. How can he be fat?

Didn't take long to establish that you wouldn't have to cage her up in the bathroom.

I'm sure kitty will retrain the dogs shortly :D - You just have to worry about them getting into the litter box :hair:

My lab mix tended to carry his weight in his belly an underneath. You could feel his ribs, but even at only 85* - he was definitely overweight. I got him down to 75 and he moved much better and was more active.

Glad to hear the spine thing can be sorted out, sounds scary.

Your vet is breed profiling him for being a lab.

Far out night here tonight. WWW caught one of the last black kittens (one still left to catch), and a fat antelope is across the fence behaving different, (I think she might be in labor, we saw that 2 summers ago so I could be right). OR, the antelope had the babies this morning and is guarding them (they "hide" the babies in the brush and return for nursing a cleaning).

    FAR OUT

Very last stray kitten safely in the house tonight. :dex:Apparently it was pretty lonely after the last of his litter siblings was caught earlier today, came over 50' to the sound of our voices earlier, then with lots of coaxing from us and a can of sardines finally in the house. The two elusive lil black ones are sleeping with their mother cat we "adopted" in daughters bedroom. Whats up with this?!?!, they both use the litter box (literally a box with dirt in it) tonight.

I am ready to ship them off asap, get them vet check, wormed shots and a good foster home courtesy of the rescue I am working with. WWW after all the protests thinks the mother needs a few days with them? They are already weaned. Whatever:picard:

Instinct for cats is to bury their waste so cats normally don't need to be "trained" like dogs. Just show them sand, loose dirt, or cat litter, and that is where they want to go. Sometimes, under duress (sickness, stress), they will find substitute items (clothing, bedding, wood pellets, Styrofoam peanuts) etc.

I think you need the kittens to keep Mama Cat from going post partum :D. And they are great stress therapy with all their antics!

One of the last two. Going to the welfare society tomorrow for foster home:) The fuzzy white thing to the left of the picture is part of a bunny the mother caught. I think it was too big for the kittens, and is still there (aaaack). Good momma kitty.
