I placed foam panels around the sides of my garage under (watch out for flame spread issues, you can not use just the foam panels). There was quite a bit of above ground concrete wall. I panelled it from just above floor level to the ceiling. It made a huge difference in the garage both in the summer with a much lower humidity level and in the winter with the temperature. The only draw back was I can no longer use the garage for storing certain vegetables and apples.

Wow, it finally has started to sprinkle a little. That will help the constant watering we have been doing.

spent the weekend prepping the stationary engine building at the museum for a flat work pour of about 30 yards... Formed up all the pits for the floor, and flooded the foundation with water from the pond nearby. ready for final grade-out and a little more work on the electrical center.

George J, (86 years old and a master of Northwest 80 ton cranes, draglines and shovels) held a class on splicing cable. We needed 4 cables about 25 feet long to lift the Fairbanks motor. Splicing eyes into these cables is an art.... We have some young guys who stepped up to learn from George.... Now we have 4 nice cables 7/8 wire capable of lifting 8.5 tons WLL. (working load limit) breaking strength is 5 times that. they F@#$ked up the first cable- it's off to the side!!!) George will be at the controls of a 80 ton Northwest Crane 50 ton lifting capacity, to lift our 22 ton Fairbanks onto its engine mount. Next Saturday the lift will take place, with the help of a 74 year old lifetime rigger and millwright (has to be next weekend as he is going in for knee surgery on the 16th) and good friend of mine. It's good to see these old timers pass on some of their vast knowledge, but at the same time i worry that they might be slipping just a little...............

There's no danger in this lift, so all will go well, I'm sure. still, someday soon, we will need to do this on our own. I hope I'm up for it!

I see you have some Vigaro branded plants. Have you tried Home Depo's Bonnie brand for veggies? Just asking since they are are sale 4/$10. I picked up 6 tomato plants yesterday so I am curious as to how well they do.

Last year I had a few cherry tomatoes that were fantastic but the larger ones didn't do well at all. I dont remember where we got them. But we got some cucumbers at WalMart (of all places) that were out of this world good.

I'd love to take credit, but those were there when I bought the house; One of the best things about this place!

My mother sent that (and the purple ones in the background of the lupine) from Kansas last summer. I didn't expect any blooms since folk wisdom says iris won't bloom for 2-3 years after dividing and transplanting. I was happy to see some blooms.

I've never had much luck either. I just planted that lupine last year, so it may not realize what is up o_O . However, the foliage is quite healthy, even after the low snow total and the extreme -21* it experienced over the winter. I do think that planting it in an area that is somewhat moist may help it too. I've never had them come back more than one year, so next summer will be the real test.
