I have a Vermont Castings Sequoia stove (circa 1990) - it has a crack in the top - sorry no pic. Bigger than a hairline crack but couldn't fit a piece of paper in it - not cracked all the way through. Both sides of the thermostat on the top. I think I know the answer (replace it) but...is there anything i can do to repair it? or what is the harm in continuing to use it? I know there are a bunch of threads about suggestions for replacement stoves - but would be looking for: Non cat stove, to heat 2000 sf, assume most stoves come with blower, i like the side loading Sequoia and would like glass front door - nothing fancy just like to see fire . Thoughts? or if I am off with what I think i want - let me know. Thanks in advance for the advise.
Replace it. Buy the 30-NC from Home Depot, if you order it from Durango, CO for $519 plus shipping and tax, you should be able to get it to your door for less than $700. See the thread below. FYI, Englander 30NC on sale $519 | Firewood Hoarders Club
Thanks for the info and advise - appreciate it. I did check out the HD in Colorado - seems like real good deal - way I read stove description looks like it comes with blower. I am just a little tentative to order from that far away - how does it come common carrier? how to get up my driveway? unloading? Just uneasy feeling that if something goes wrong - damage, etc.. its gonna be mess. Maybe they drop ship from manufacturer? Anyone done this deal?
A bunch of us have done the deal. Mine was through an HD in Tennessee, but it ships right from the manufacturer warehouse. Mine came on a semi with a lift gate. The driver had a pallet jack and we pulled it about 40' on that, then I dragged it from there to my porch with the GT. It'll be strapped on at least one pallet (mine was on two). I have a thread on it somewhere in here. The blower it comes with looks a little like a hair dryer and will stick out the back of the stove a bit. Didn't work for me, so I got the better blower. My brother and one of my nephews got unvoluntarily volunteered to help get it in the house and on the raised hearth, but I could have done it myself. Take off the door, remove the bricks, and it lightens the weight quite a bit. Hope this helps, and ask any more questions needed.
As papadave says, lots of us have done it. Mine was delivered while I was at work, and my wife drove the truck out to the end of our drive. They set it in the truck, and she drove it up to the house. Delivery time was arranged in advance, so no surprises. Easy peasy. Don't sweat it if anything goes wrong, you are dealing with two reputable companies, Home Depot and Englander. If anything goes wrong, they will make it good.
Great - thanks again for insight - appreciate it - having couple guys already do the deal make me feel better. So I should order the large room - rectangular blower?
I guess it depends how close to the wall you want to place the stove.....keeping CTCs in mind, of course. The rectangle blower sticks out the heat shield 3". The other one is more like 4-5". I never used it, so that's an estimate. Not only have several of us done that or a similar deal, there's a bunch more who have the stove w/o the deal. Check out Highbeam 's thread Your nc30 needs a convection deck | Firewood Hoarders Club re: the convection deck. Dex has one and I made a 1/2 azzed one as well. Works wonders for getting more heat into the house. I'm also considering getting the side shields for it.
Here's my thread on the 30NC, if you're interested.......Englander NC30 deal .....ordered | Firewood Hoarders Club
There are others who have done it, and haven't commented here yet. I actually paid a bit more than that, the deal wasn't as sweet when I jumped. But it is a great stove at an excellent (astonishing) price.
And my buy is documented here Englander NC-30 $649 | Firewood Hoarders Club I paid $649, and with a few tricks on the buy, it cost about $750 delivered. You could get yours for less than $700, without any tricks.
Mine was delivered by a full size semi, with day cab, and an awesome driver and a liftgate on the back. He backed that thing way off the street down my gravel driveway to the bay door of my shop and dropped it right onto the slab. Let me check for damage and then I signed for it and he left. It went very well.
There's a whole boatload of us have done this deal...heck, I did it and don't even need a stove! FYI, there is a $300 tax credit available on the NC30 for 2016 too...so that puts you about ~$360 out of pocket after everything is said n done...got 'er ordered yet?! Oh, and yes, they are drop shipped direct from the factory...

Yep - yes sir. Not to pontificate - but moved into my house in 2003 -started wood burning - everyone though I was crazy 2003-2008.
