I would agree. But I haven't used a push mower in probably a decade Maybe close to 15 years so I didn't know they just stop like that?

yeah they have a brake shoe on the flywheel and if you let that bar just fly up it stops it dead, instantly

That is one thing I like about the JD I found, when you let go of the handle the blade stops but the mower keeps running. Can stop move something and not have to restart the mower. Also can engage the drive without the blades blowing stuff around from area to area.

Yep. That's the clutch that's on all of the 14-B models, the JA65 and JX75/85 machines.

The JX75 MSRP was hovering at $900 just before it was discontinued back around 2004-5. They were always expensive mowers. But back when it was common for even upper middle class folk to be mowing their own small suburban yards, these units were pretty popular with them. They cut excellent, had a great drive system, an easy bag to empty and re-attach and a pretty good dealer service/support network behind them too. They were popular with the commercial cutters too for small lawns because of the clutches and the Kawasaki powered units had the option for an oil filter as they were a pressure lube engine. They had a great air filter setup as well so it's no surprise that there are a lot of survivors even today.

even after using this one and loving it, rolls easy, 5 speed trans, cuts great, I still would not pay that much for a mower. Now for a trash pick and a carb cleaning
