Looking for input on a good heavy duty carport that any of you have used or continue to store your wood in. Trying to weigh my options and see if it's gonna be better to build a firewood shelter or buy a steel framed nice carport. Thanks in advance.

When I looked into it o couldn't build a shed for as cheap as I could get a carport. Great option in my opinion.

I looked into the Cardinal carport place and unfortunately they emailed me back and stated they didn't service my area anymore.

My 12'x12' pallet shed cost about 250 to put together and that was with new steel roofing and box store dimensional lumber. A fella could do much better with sawmill lumber and used roofing.

They can work extremely good and I do not see how it would be possible to build one at the same size for what they want. I don't think you could go wrong.

However, there can be some problems like you ran into where they don't service the area any longer. We have a neighbor who bought one and waited perhaps 5 or 6 months to get it set up. So when we went looking, I checked more than one place for sure and before putting any money down on it, I called the company and the #1 question I asked was, "If I buy this thing, what time frame are we looking at for delivery and setup?"

That proved to be an interesting question. The company where my neighbor bought could not tell me when it would be done simply because they had no more orders for our area. Their best guess would be 6 months minimum wait time.

One company I called was very friendly (I think from Indiana) and they checked to be sure. It was on a Thursday when I called. I then went the next day to the dealer and put the required money down (I think it was 10% or maybe 20%). The following Tuesday they were here and put it up. We were very happy.

I have another friend who put one up similar to ours (completely closed in with overhead door, entry door and windows). He was not happy at all and neither would I have been as it was really a crappy job they did putting it together. But, he got the shed and paid for it so he was stuck with it.

btw, I don't remember the company but could look it up if need be. The dealer is in Oakley, MI and their prices are in line with everyone else. If I can be of help, just ask.

    Good luck.

According to my very careful and usually inaccurate siphering it should hold 9. But I underestimate due to the irregular shape of split wood, air gaps, etc.

For sure it would pay you then to head to Oakley, just a little north of Owosso right on M-52. On the north side of town, on the west side of the road is a motorcycle shop and they sell the carports. Cad to Chrome I believe is the business name. That's only about 10 miles from us.

The company is All Steel Carports out of Muncie, Indiana. 800-730-7908 and they even have an email address of [email protected]

    Good luck.
