New toy on the way

I have a Husqvarna 327PT5S. $599 MSRP, but I got it for $480 because my dealer appreciates my sense of humor.....LOL!
It does get heavy with it at full extension, but if I remember to use the cross body harness it reduces the arm/shoulder carry weight by more than half.

 

Got the box out onto my front landing and opened it with a knife.

Then I pulled apart some of the packing material and this is what I found.


Next up was pictures to show where I started pruning.




Then it was time for some after pictures, before I started to clean up. These were taken from the same place as the first pictures.




This morning I went out to clean up the branches and cut them to reasonable lengths. I was stopped by this happening to my fancy geared loppers.




I'll get out after lunch with my old school loppers and finish up.

 

Dang. Are those warrented like the axes? I've thought about buying those.

 

Pole saw looks like it'd be pretty light weight.

I don't know but I submitted it as if it was and we shall see. All I got back so far was an acknowledgement that they had received the claim. The loppers were about 5 years old.

 

I got an e-mail yesterday saying something is on the way. We'll see what that is.

 

Within a few days of buying my Husky pole saw in June 2012 (the only model from any manufacturer that breaks down into 2 pieces for compact storage & transport) I removed this nasty Red Oak snag -

Thought it out for weeks earlier how to attack it,wasnt strong enough for me to climb/piece it down,plus with the smaller Bur Oak snag locked into it,I sure wasn't gonna stand underneath it & drop it in the normal way....

2 cuts & that 10" upper stem folded like a house of cards while I was 15' away safely on the ground......

Fiskars used to be quality. No more. Many of their products are imported from China, and they just don't seem to have a good handle on quality control.

Years ago, I bought a Gerber (division of Fiskars) "Bear Grylls" parang for use in trimming limbs. This high quality "Gerber" (Fiskars) product was made in China. It was recalled due to the blades snapping off (causing injury). The recalled parangs were subsequently recalled due to dangerous sheath design.

The Fiskars geared loppers are also made in China.

Not good at all.

Fiskars has a lifetime warranty and they stand behind it. I have the same lopper and use it in my orchard so it gets probably 10x the amount of use a normal person would put on it. One day I cut a dead branch, (don't do that, dead wood is much harder) and the cutting edge rolled over. Fiskars sent me the replacement blade that you broke free of charge.

Yeah. I have an old style pole saw/anvil pruner too, albeit with a fiberglass handle. I used an old wooden pruning saw way too much back in the day on good old Fruit Jar Tech ' s tree crew. I also have a Poulan. It has WAY too much vibration, and is heavy, but beats a manual pole all to hades.
