I think you just want that 6.5hp model. The one that they always have a coupon for $99. Unless your splitter is really big and needs a bigger motor or pump needs more volume/power

Beetle-Kill I would say Honda and this is why... I pulled my pressure washer with a 13.0 Honda gpx?? motor out of barn QST time 4 years.. covered in dirt aND dust (hey its a barn )had a half gallon of gas still in it and gas line was left on... I said oh xxxx... checked oil drained gas put in fresh started on 2nd pull and ran for 3 hours.... that is worth Xtra money to me...

Harbor freight motors do the exact same thing. Me and a buddy have one on a splitter that sits under a tarp. Used about 6x in season and rarely cranks the rest of year.

I hear you. That's why I'll pull apart the Honda and try to repair it. But if I can buy 3 motors for the price of 1, I'll go that route if lifespan is comparable.

5 years so far on the HF clone. No issue...we'll there is one. The fuel cap is a pain in the but to line back up and twist on. Probably can be fixed with a file and a few passes but I am too lazy and forget about it until it's time to put the cap on again. It likes to be lined up just perfect to put it on.

I'm partial to the honda gx engines . Having said that ,my BIL put a predator 6.5 hp engine on his splitter a bit over 3 years ago . I finally talked him into changing the oil in it his spring ! It sits outside all year ,gets gas when it's out ... That's it . Starts on the first pull everytime . Not bad for less than $100 !!

I disagree that the Chinese engines are killing the premium side of the market. They sure as heck finished off Tecumseh and took a fair chunk away from Briggs in the lower end of their market. But that's not because they were cheap. It's because the products they replaced were inferior. Loud, clunky engines with a less than stellar track record for reliability.

As good as the Chinese engines are, there will always be a market for the Hondas. Equipment that makes money, and has to be as reliable as possible will still have genuine Hondas or Subarus.

The older I get the more valuable time is . The hours I work don't leave time on the table for fiddlin with a cranky motor. Have GX models on welder/generator, trash pump, pressure washer and a splitter build I'm in the middle of. The GX390 I bought for splitter build was around $450 and I didn't hesitate paying it.

They use the same as honda parts of the same size. But you can also buy china clone parts off ebay for next to nothing. Those Clone parts also fit the hondas.

Making your living on cheap equipment and using cheap equipment for personal use are different for me. If I needed the splitter to run absolutely every time I pulled the rope I would go for the Honda. If my splitter didn't start today, it would be no big deal.

Biggs & Tecumseh are curse words to me!

They are affecting the market. Specific I can sight is generators. Our Honda genny sales at work have slowed to a crawl since Titan and Champion showed up. When those brands come to our shop for repairs they are referred to the back of the truck they bought them off of. Can't tell you how many people we had needing service on the "off brands" of generators after a big wind storm a few years ago. They couldn't get their stuff worked on anywhere and couldn't buy another junk generator due to them being sold out. THAT is where the rubber meets the road as far as cheap vs quality. I think we had two Hondas come in...stale fuel.

We sell to a lot of businesses and contractors & such...they all have Hondas in the back of their trucks.
