I own a lawn service/landscape co and was mowing a high end residential today. Across the street I watched a few tree guys drop an Ash. Their dump truck filled up fast with logs as I kept mowing. I stopped mowing and rode over to them on the mower. I said, "if you want to save a trip, go ahead and load the rest of that ash in my dump truck." They seemed shocked I'd let them. They cut it into 36"-40" logs, loaded them into a bobcat bucket and then into my truck. The owner of the company showed up and said he had a job in 3 weeks across the street from my house. He said to make a spot and he'll have 2-3 loads of Locust. I love easy logs! Not much for this load but their truck already had the majority of the tree in it. I expect I can get all I want if I keep in touch with them. Got them moved to the back with the bobcat and bucked them all in half tonight. Should start splitting once grass slows down. Most logs are around 16"-20" diameter. Here's the spoils:
It never hurts to ask. Good for you, all I know is that if a Tree service is busy enough they have no time for selling firewood. At least my Tree company that parks here on my property doesn't. The only advantage I have over most is my Tree guy is very frugal to say the least. If he can't pick it up and put it in his dump truck or roll it onto his trailer he cuts it in 16" pieces then brings it here. My tree guy is out 4 weeks to catch up and then with all the Yoohoo's from neighbors when he is working he ends up getting more work. Again good for you and I hope you have the room.
This guy had a stack of work orders that he said would take 5-6 months to finish. They're not a big outfit, maybe 6 guys. Lots of tree work around here. Ash trees are dying everywhere. We have plenty of room. Little city lot but it's still .66 acres. The hard part is finding time to split and stack. I prefer doing that when the cold sets in and my work is slower.
My cousins husband work for a tree trimming outfit. Around these parts half of their business is tree trimming and half cord wood sales. They have a crew that trims and and a crew that processes the wood into cords for sale. They sell hundreds of cords.
It is interesting how the tree services vary depending on local demand. The guy who gives me pre cut rounds says he pays $500 to another guy with a log truck when he gets big jobs. That's right. He's paying to get wood picked up from a job.
Second load showed up today. Got a call around lunch and they had a load from a tree removal just down the road. Another load of Ash.
I wish. My lawn grows so much I would have to mow twice a week to keep on top of it. I don't even fertilize my lawn.
Same here sir-3 acres and I can only mow once a week-keeps me from the woods and trigger time-glad my 3 yr plan is all but done-I really want 4yrs ahead and I have the trees down to do it-add my weekly need for at least 18 holes and preferably 36 I can hardly justify going to work...but then there's the dang bills...oh the stress
