Yep, 240 probably runs the low pro chain the 445 runs. 325 narrow kerf.
If the chain gets dull you will know it, gotta keep it Sharp

I got about 2 cord experience with 445. and 5 cord with 455 rancher. rancher couple pound heavier little more power.. I guess I would say I am a rookie but would follow advice above... As my loggers, use husky and I have tried their saws (mostly professional and xp ) you can feel I big difference especially over many cuts... a lot really depends on how you cut.. if you cut 2 tree at a time every other weekend.. is pro unit worth extra maybe if you have budget... If you cut 4 cord on a long weekend to get ahead.. I would definitely recommend pro saw...

Think of it like mowing your lawn can you mow it once a week with a push mower yes... but it's easier and faster with a riding lawnmower.. if you mow a lot or do it as a job.. a good zero turn is a nice investment ...

Sounds like it would probably fit the bill around here. The poplar doesn't get much bigger than 14-16" before it starts going down hill.

$300 US (or $383 CDN) is kinda "no man's land" for saws....too much for a new small box store saw, but not enough to buy a quality pro saw. Its like paying $30K for a new 1/2 ton plain ol' gas pickup, when for $35K - $40K you could buy a very lightly used 1 ton diesel with all the goodies. The (relatively) little extra "buck" gets you a lot more "bang".

That's my sentiments exactly cutting 3 cords a year, do I need a not really.
I cut Big Trees up but I don't cut big trees down, not at that skill level

I would say 12" hard wood so up to 16" poplar should be fine. Get a regular. 325 chain and it will do better.

saskwoodburner, I run a 445, typically with a 20" bar, and I have no issues with certain species up to that bar size....
Cutting anything that requires a run from both sides can slow me down, but until I got the 576xp, it was all I had.
I never go out in the woods to win a race, but, these 50-60cc suggestions would do it faster, and maybe give you the chance to run up to 24" bar, but a sharp chain makes all the difference.....
I love my 445 is all I'm saying.

    I tried.
Thanks for saying so, CbVT :)
I paid $319 at Lowes 4 years ago and have not looked back. I've read some minor trash talk about the saw, both here and reviews, and I don't discredit any of it- simply 'cos everyone is entitled to their own opinion- but from my experience, I won't get rid of that saw......ever :saw::thumbs:
All of the other suggestions have been spot on, and I know the OP is grateful for all of the info. I can't hardly wait to see posted pics of a new, or new-to- saskwoodburner saw.:ithappened::D

In southern hardwood I wouldn't want to be much bigger than 12" regular. 14" on occasion and 18" if I had too.

I too was going to offer mine but I'm here in the states too. I was going to say we could work a deal...I need to get rid of it.

To give you an idea as to what we are paying up here (all in our government induced, artificially deflated dollar), and this is from Husqvarna's most recent flyer:

    240 $279
    435 $311*
    440 $434
    445 $383*
    450 $569
    455 $479*
    460 $649
    * discounted (discontinued?)
    545 $699
    XP saws
    543 $669
    550 $769
    562 $974

edit: Ah, I didn't see that saskwoodburner already posted the flyer.

if you want a new husky depending I thought you mentioned you liked dealer.. and wanted new that 455 would be my choice if those were the options.. Depending if you need pro saw and of course budget

another example my bil... only buys dodges Cummins diesels. . it's a real truck if you ask him.. but most guys are not hauling cattle and feed over Vermont hills. it's a good truck but not what I would recommend for Johnny homeowner.

I've considered the 455 and 460 before, but I'd like to know where the extra 2 lbs comes from on these models?

the case (engine and cylinder) on 455 is about 15% (eyeballing it) bigger then on 445 on one's I have here. ones here are both 4 to 5 years old.. just went picked them both up there is a weight difference doesn't seem bad .. but to be completely straight.. I would grab my 260 pro saw. which is why I only have 7 cord total on husky.. only grab it when 16" bar on Stihl.. not quite enough or dad brings it to camp...

The 450, 455 and 460 all are built on a larger chassis than the 445.

The 465 Rancher is coming too although I doubt it's price tag will make it popular with the forum enthusiasts.

I've got nothing against clamshells but I sure won't pay over $500 for one. They'll perform fine but be delicate with the plastic chassis. I guess their market is the homeowner in the $500k hood who can tell his neighbor - "My saw is bigger than yours"

It's going to have to fall somewhere between the 460 and the 555 pricewise

    $549.95 MSRP -- yeeeeouch.

The 465AT I saw in person was a real nice saw but I bought a Dolmar 6100 for less $$ than that that day.
